Professor of history and experienced local guide that started a new tour inside a city.
Visiting Diocletians palace is great, but visiting Palace, Medieval and modern Split is even better!
Feel history of roman Palace and start a journey through center of Split, filled with influence of Venice, Ottomans and Napoleon. Of course, all that with Game of Thrones locations, interesting facts and a dash of local life and legends.
The tour starts from Riva promenade and goes through the cellars all the way to the main ancient square. There we have an amazing view on Cathedral and medieval palacies. On the way to Silver & Golden gates we gonna pass the narrowest street in the world. Making a wish by touching a toe of Gregori of Nin statue is a must to do in Split.
After the Palace we will walk a modern main street and square and finish at main medieval square.
During a walk you will get a bunch of tips what to do and where to spend time in Split.

We are starting our tour on Riva promenade, right next to model of Palace. Riva is where local population spend their time drinking coffee, enjoying the sun and its the place where most of the public life happens.
Diocletian Palace Substructures
The basement halls of Diocletian's Palace (more accurately known as the substructures), are one of the world's best-preserved complexes from the era of classical antiquity. This vast space is one of the key reasons why the historical centre of Split was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1979.

5.00This was a well paced and informative tour. It was raining and a Croatian national holiday so Split was empty which made it even more enjoyable. I learned a lot of fun facts and had a great time with the tour guide. I could not have asked for anything else.
He gave us an overview of the city as well as where we were going. Then we walked

5.00Amazing tour! Mario is knowledgable and passionate about Split and its history and showed interest in us and our home countries. As I’m staying in split for a while, he also took his time to give me a whole lot of recommendations for what to do and see around the city.

5.00There are many walking tours of Split available but this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. I know this to be true even though this is the only walking tour I have taken but I am confident it cannot be beaten. Mario is a fantastic guide - knowledgeable, charismatic, and engaging. His credentials as a learned academic mean that he can answer any question (historical or otherwise) and his style is, in the nicest possible way, school teacher-ish. Moreover, he brings the fascinating Roman history of Split (and Europe) to life with anecdotes and vignettes. And to top it all, Mario offers genuinely useful tourist advice during the tour. Mario apologised when our tour overran by a couple of minutes; my wife and I would have welcomed another couple of hours! Thoroughly recommended.

5.00We enjoyed this tour a lot. It was informative and interesting and although it is said to be one of the longer tours, very entertaining. There were many exciting anecdotes and tips. We felt very comfortable.

5.00Fun and very informative! Anita was a fantastic guide. We walked the entire city of Split and learned so much. After the tour, we went back to a few locations and paid the entry fee for a deeper look. Highly recommend!

5.00Today we did the history walking tour with Mario and enjoyed it immensely. Mario does such a great job with his knowledge of history and his interaction with the group. He remembered everyone’s name and where they came from adding another angle to his presentation. Mario also gave tips so that as visitors were aware of things to be aware of. Mario keep up your sense of humour and we just could not find anything you could improve on. Thank you from both of us.
