"Te Puia" Geysers - Rotorua

Heartland of New Zealand's geothermal activity and a center for Māori history and culture. See kiwi birds, Māori greenstone and wood carvers at work. Surrounded by a steaming volcanic landscape, see and feel the heat of boiling mud, and endlessly simmering hot pools, the thrilling sight of "Pohutu" geyser erupting boiling water and steam 100 ft high an amazing display of force. A full day of fun & adventure!

Hobbiton Movie Set

We are met by our guide and board the Hobbit Bus for the short drive through the 1250 acre sheep farm to the movie set for a two hour escorted tour around the 12-acre site. Our local guide explains the history of the site as you wander along the rambling paths of The Shire, past Hobbit Holes, The Mill, and into the world-famous Green Dragon Inn where you can sample specially brewed beverages. After completing the Hobbit tour, we start the return trip to the Port and you’re waiting for the ship on time on board time well before sailing hour. I have never missed a ship

Te Puia

A must see! Experience the sights and sounds of the village. On our arrival at Whaka, we experience a traditional Maori welcome, followed by a cultural performance that showcase’s traditional Maori dance, songs, and the famous haka, weaving. Hear and see the world-famous Pohutu Geyser rumbling as it erupts steam and hot water up to 30 meters, bubbling mud and boiling hot water pools plus steam vents galore are some of the things you will experience.

It was amazing! Seing the geothermal wonders is a once in a lifetime experience. Very knowledgeable guide who would detour to ensure i saw the most of everything!

We could not have asked for a better tour. Our time in Tauranga was extremely limited but our guide Patrick made sure we got the most out of both Hobbiton and the geothermal areas of the region. He met us ahead of schedule, was a safe but efficient driver, and explained the areas he took us to us like only an enthusiastic local could. I could not recommend Patrick or this tour more.

The day tour to the Te Puia Centre, Geysers and then onto Hobbiton was an experience we will never forget. Our guide was friendly, knowledgable and went out of his way to make sure we maximised our visit. As we were in Tauranga as part of our Cruise, he worked in with our arrival and departure times to ensure we didn't miss our ship. We would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone considering a trip to Tauranga, it gave us an opportunity to visit Rotorua and Hobbiton in the same day.

We had an wonderful day with Patrick, our tour operator. While we were not able to do the Te Puia geysers because our ship came in late (nothing anyone can do about that!), Patrick still was able to show us some of the local sights of Rotorua, such as different hot springs and ZORBS?! (Yes, they are a thing...) And of course, Patrick got us to Hobbiton... Which. Is. AMAZING! They have just opened up two new hobbit holes for guests to walk through, along with the rest of the Shire, and the attention to detail simply cannot be believed! To make the day even better, Patrick let us know that guests with mobility challenges can reserve a personal golf cart to help get around Hobbiton. My mom, who sometimes has difficulty walking long distances, was able to experience the beautiful scenery and set. Thank you, Patrick for making this a wonderful day!
