We took this tour from Montecatini Terme, and it was about 1.5 hours to get to the coast. Tanya picked up us and another couple in town, when and where she was supposed to. We then drove to Lucca to pick up more people for the tour. Tanya gave us a nice description of what we were passing while driving to CT (such as the Cararra Marble factory/quarry), and also a good history of the area when we got there. Valerie joined us in the parking lot with a van full of her own people, and she was our tour guide for the rest of the day. Valerie was wonderful. How she managed to keep 20 people together through walking the steep hills (up and down!), a boat ride, the train ride, bathroom breaks, lunch, shopping, is beyond me. She has the patience of a saint because some of those people were just ... well, I'll leave it at that! She gave great lunch recommendations too! If you are considering this trip, know that there are steep hills that you have to walk down, then back up. Some people on our tour seemed surprised at this, even though it is in the description. They don't rush you back up the hill at the end of the day, but you do have to be able to do it in a decent amount of time so we can all get back to our hotels/B&Bs. Even though it rained for the morning and was cloudy for the rest of the day, it was a really nice tour. Make sure you try the local white wine when you have lunch!

This was a beautiful full day-trip of approximately 16 people. Our tour guide was Jenny and regrettably I have forgotten our driver’s name…he was skilled, time efficient and I don’t want to go without commenting on his contribution to such a wonderful day. The pick up spot was a five minute walk from our hotel in Montecatini Terme. We had two more hotel stops to pick up the rest of our group and off we went to La Spezia where we caught the train that headed to our first of three of the five towns in Cinque Terre…Riomaggiore. We walked the trail up to the viewpoint to overlook the bay, had cappuccinos and some delicious focaccia bread. We then boarded a ferry that took us to Vernazza, which was absolutely gorgeous. We took in the views, wandered up side-streets and enjoyed some gelato. Then another fairy onto Monterosso. Our exploration time in this town was the longest. We explored the streets, had a delicious lunch and local red Monterosso wine and hiked up the trail to the Saint Francis of Assisi statue that overlooks the bay. We then boarded the train that took us back to La Spezia, where we boarded our tour bus that took us back to our hotels. This tour is a “taste” of Cinque Terre, short periods of time in three of the five towns, so if you’re looking for ample time in each town, I can only recommend that you stay in Cinque Terre or La Spezia to take in one town each day. Having said that, Jenny was beyond fantastic handling our group in crowded train stations, small bustling towns, ferry boats, etc. and she was chock-full of knowledge, information, history and made our day memorable! Grazie mille Jenny and our wonderful driver!

Cinque Terre is a lot to do in one day. This tour is designed to get the best of the experience and it really is stress free. No time wasted buying tickets, figuring out logistics, transferring trains, etc. Our guide Valerie was incredible, showing us the best of each town while leaving ample time to explore and take in the stunning scenery. Valerie is high energy, informative and offers insights into the area we wouldn't be able to get on our own.. A delightful day we'll long remember.
