The Buckhorn Saloon and Texas Ranger Museum
Since its founding in 1881, the Buckhorn Saloon has grown from a bar decorated with antler racks into an impressive collection of taxidermy with more than 520 animal species represented, in addition to other spectacular exhibits. Make your way to the site and browse the fascinating collections in the Hall of Horns, Hall of Feathers, and Hall of Fins. Among the treasures to behold: a Texas Longhorn with horns that measure more than 8 feet (2.5 meters) across; a record-breaking 1,056-pound (479-kilo) marlin that was caught in Peru; oddities such as an 8-legged lamb and a 2-headed calf; and other impressive horns that include a 78-point buck and a moose with a 5-foot, 7-inch (1.7-meter) rack. Prized specimens include rare and extinct creatures such as an Irish elk and a pair of passenger pigeons. In the old days, the saloon's owners traded with cowboys, exchanging beer or whiskey for antlers and rattlesnake rattles. They then created chairs from the antlers, such as a 62-horn chair for Teddy Roosevelt, and art pieces from the rattles. See these pieces, then step into the past in the Hall of Texas History Wax Museum section. Dioramas that depict early Texas were originally featured at San Antonio’s Hemisphere World's Fair in 1968. The Texas Ranger Museum is a more recent addition to the Buckhorn’s collection. It includes artifacts from two centuries of Texas law enforcement, including historic revolvers, sawed-off shotguns, photographs, badges and more. Ranger Town recreates San Antonio life in the early 1900s. While visiting this fascinating attraction, you can stop into the saloon and cafe for lunch or a locally-brewed beer (each at own expense); you're welcome to bring your drink into the museum.

We were pleasantly surprised. There is so much to see and learn about Texas history. We spent 2 hours wandering the 2 floors!

Apologies for the long overdue review Fabulous authentic place to visit A big Thank to the lady in the photographs who was one of the friendliest people on the planet and took my adult son and daughter on a guided tour round the museum which they absolutely loved. We also got to slide shots down the bar, not a drop was spilt and no shot glasses came to any harm 😁 Definitely worth a visit if your near by and we will back this September

Save your money! The food was no more than average and the museum was 0 out of 5 for us. The hop on hop off experience was worthless except for the Alamo stop and you can do that on your own.

This was great! The food was good, the museum was really fun to walk through, and they even let you take a drink along with you.

Fun place off the regular touristy Riverwalk. Lots of stuff packed into this little area. Would have liked to spend a little more time in here but our time was a bit limited. Lots of fun!

Educational. Had to walk a bit to get there but what a fun place. I would go again. Just the antler collections were worth it for me. Don't miss this one. Lots to see here.

We stopped here and shopped the gift shop which was really nice. We also did the museum. The museum is cool worth checking out. There is a full bar if some people in your group don't want to do the museum. There is a arcade there too.

A very interesting museum with many stuffed animals and curiosity pieces to view. The adjoining Texas Ranger was a tribute to these law enforcement officers. I would recommend a visit to any people who are interested in this field.

The entire museum was definitely interesting and informative. Sam, the gentleman who greets you at the door, was very unique and in character. The admission for 2 museums is actually pretty decent, plus they have a first responder and a military discount. It took us about 3 hours to complete both museums and eat lunch at the saloon. It was a little busy, but not to bad for 10 in the morning.

We just parked into the Buckhorn saloon to see the oldest saloon in the state of Texas. The walls were covered with hundreds of animals and they even had a Jackalope. Pop in have a beer and check out the scenery. It’s very cool.
