Our experience is an educational tour to learn about the culture of mezcal and all the tradition that surrounds it.

We will begin our trip starting from the center of the city of Oaxaca and we will visit the towns of Mitla and Matatlán. There we will take a walking tour through our majestic agave fields with thousands of specimens, where we will be able to learn more about this plant, as well as having enough time to do a couple of activities and of course the best photographs.

Then we will continue to an artisan mezcal distillery to learn step by step, the entire artisan process of making our drink. At the end of the tour, we will have an unlimited tasting of different varieties of mezcal.

Finally, we will share a traditional Oaxacan meal at a local restaurant, already included, and of course, More Mezcal!

What To Expect

Santiago Matatlan

We will visit a mezcal factory to learn step by step, the entire artisanal process of making our drink. At the end of the tour, we will have an unlimited tasting of different varieties of mezcal, where you can learn about the different categories and classes.

What an incredible day! The tour guide was so passionate and genuinely wanted us to have the full experience she was very knowledgeable and engaging. We tried A LOT of Mezcal there was something for everyone and more! I will treasure this experience for ever and I recommend anyone visiting Oaxaca to partake in this tour!

Had the most amazing day with The Mezcal Journey. Our guide was great and so lovely. Took time to learn all our names and find out about us and why we were here in Oaxaca. The day itself was brilliant and so interesting learning about how mezcal is made. You get to taste A LOT of mezcals and also get a fantastic traditional Oaxacan lunch included. Well worth the money and would recommend to anyone! Thanks again!

We had an amazing time on the mezcal journey—both informative and absolutely delicious. The guide was knowledgeable and engaging, and we really enjoyed learning about the process and tasting such a variety of mezcals. One thing to note is that, as the description states, it’s important to have a hearty breakfast beforehand. Lunch was served at the end of the tour around 3 p.m., so my only suggestion would be to consider offering food a bit earlier in the day. Overall, a wonderful and memorable experience we’d highly recommend!
