Museum and Crypt of Capuchins Friars
Your first destination is the Capuchin Crypt. Capuchin monks used the bones of nearly 4,000 of their brothers to decorate this somber space in intricate floor-to-ceiling designs, lending it the macabre nickname of ‘the Bone Chapel’. Here you will be free to explore hearing all the interesting details and the reasons behind such an unusual practice with your audio guide. Open your eyes to the city’s hidden side – and you’ll never see Rome the same way again.
Catacombe Di Domitilla
Your expert historian guide will explain how this network of sacred tunnels is associated with the first Christians in ancient Rome. You’ll descend into the labyrinthian corridors carved into the soft volcanic rock and discover the frescoes, strange iconography and burial places which doubled as places of worship when the Christians were persecuted.

This was a very interesting experience. Our guide was excellent and happily answered questions from the group. The only issue, and it was minor, was the pickup point. There was a large fountain and we along with at least 2 others were on the wrong side. Travel to the various sites was on a comfortable coach.

Excellent tour of the crypts and catacombs; a side of Rome most people don't think about visiting. A must do. On the bus ride back the guide gave us information about Rome unrelated to our tour, which was very helpful.

Great tour guide, difficult to hear at the start of the tour but got easier once on the bus. The time in the crypt is quite short, definitely not long enough to read or listen to the information

Lovely and knowledgeable tour guides and very interesting places, but I would suggest going on a weekday as the unpredictable nature of traffic and crowds on the weekends might affect your tour. We couldn’t get to all the places on the itinerary because of heavy traffic so only ended up going to two places in 3.5 hours. Also, as as side note, because we were going to be affected by traffic, they reiterated that the tour title was ‘crypts and catacombes’ and framed the basilicas as an ‘added bonus’ however the tour lists these as part of the itinerary, which is a little bit of mixed messaging. You don’t need a tour guide for the Capuchin crypts, so perhaps consider focusing your tour guide money where a guide is required.
