The Dominican Republic is beautiful and everyday you can find some new place to enjoy that only some locals get to experience but Puerto Plata in particular, has this amazing combination of natural attractions, culture and history that you can rarely find in one place. It also baffles me how you can be at the beach enjoying the warm weather and 15 minutes later, up in the highest point of Puerto Plata, overlooking the city and surrounded by an entirely different ecosystem and cool weather.

So tag along with me not only to explore but to experience Puerto Plata and but to appreciate it as only locals do.

I will pick you up at at your location start by stopping at a Dominican convenience store right in front of the beach to have a snack, then proceed to go to a local beach spot where you can swim and take pictures, after that we go to the cable car and explore the beautiful botanical garden on the top, after that we will walk through the historic center and finish our tour at San Felipe fortress and drive you back to our meeting point.

Aside from the welcome beer, I do not include other alcoholic beverages nor lunch unless is requested and will be added to the final quote.

My kids and I hooked up with Ambar with no particular plan on where we wanted to go. We left it all up to her. She suggested surfing so we booked surfing and she got us there. After surfing we saw the fort, went for lunch at an awesome restaurant, saw umbrella st, pink st, the Cathedral….stopped for a drink at a cute little artsy joint, learned how chocolate is made, saw both of Ambar’s families properties(wow what a view!!!). We stopped at a bakery and experience fresh “red buns”. My oldest kiddo was sick so we experienced our first drive through pharmacy and Ambar helped us get some stuff to help him feel better. After 9 hours Ambar was ready to keep the adventure going with us but with my kiddo’s cough getting worse I had to pull the pin. It was a great day! And we have made a friend for life! I highly recommend a day out with Ambar!

Ámbar was hands down the best tour guide we have ever had! She took us off the beaten path and we got to see so many amazing things, like the beautiful countryside and local beaches, as well as the more popular areas (Umbrella street & Paseo de Doña Blanca). She was welcoming, hospitable, and extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture. She was fantastic and we highly recommend her to anyone visiting Puerto Plata.

We really appreciated the fact that Ambar reached out to us in advance to ask what we would particularly like to see during the tour, and then built the tour around that. She bought us some Dominican treats, which we would probably otherwise never have tasted. And she was very accommodating to 96-year old mother/mother-in-law who was part of our group of 4. Of course going up Mount Isobel de Torres in the tram on a perfectly clear day was a memorable experience
