Immerse yourself in the silence of the Atacama Desert and discover one of the most beautiful night skies on Earth. A short drive from San Pedro de Atacama, far from the village lights, millions of stars appear above you and the Milky Way stretches across the desert sky.
The Roofless Experience is a small-group astronomical experience that combines telescope observation, astronomical talk and a relaxed atmosphere under the stars. With 2 powerful 16” telescopes, you’ll observe stars, nebulae, star clusters and southern constellations as your guide explains the science and history behind the cosmos in an engaging and accessible way.
In between observations, relax under the stars with a glass of wine, hot chocolate or tea and rich snacks, warmed with warm blankets.
To complete the night, each guest receives a professional photo under the sky of Atacama.

San Pedro de Atacama
The tour begins with the pick-up of passengers at the accommodation, this usually takes approximately 30 minutes, then we will move to our facilities about 7km outside of San Pedro where our guide will wait for them.
We will give you a brief welcome talk and take souvenir photographs. It is very important to come with warm, light-colored clothing. Afterwards we will have a short talk about astronomy related to star formation and the use of telescopes. Finally, we will use the 14-inch telescopes to discover the universe, where you can enjoy, depending on the date of your trip, different types of stars, nebulae, planets and other objects that will leave you speechless.

5.00What an absolutely incredible experience. Jhonatan’s knowledge of and passion for the universe is totally infectious. We found ourselves completely immersed and the time flew by. The small group size meant we were never waiting in line. Jhonatan answered all our questions. He is generous and gracious host. The hot chocolates and snacks were a delicious side treat. 5.00I did this experience with Jonathan who is extremely knowledgeable about astronomy and did an excellent job highlighting the stars, constellations, and galaxies in the sky over the Atacama desert. It was a very small group with 3 people which gave it a very personal feel.

3.00Jonathan was a very enthusiastic guide. We loved his enthusiasm . We spent about an hour learning to take photos of the sky with our phones. Then we looked at stars in two telescopes. It was freezing. My recommendation is to wear tons of layers, a hat and gloves and be prepared to freeze. The only thing I would have liked is more instruction on the constellations before spending hours looking at stars in the telescopes. The food was a charcuterie board but we didn’t really get a chance to sit and eat it. If it is going to be a very cold night, I recommend that they provide extra blankets and maybe a fire. All in all they tried very hard to make it a nice experience but with the cold temps and ineffective itinerary, it was not great.
An incredible experience, we could not recommend this highly enough!

5.00An incredible experience, we could not recommend this highly enough. Jhonatan and his team were brilliant, their knowledge was brilliant and their passion was clear to see. The experience was split into two parts - the first section Jhonatan taught us how to take photos of the night sky, and also used a high quality set up to take profession photos of us with the milky way as the backdrop. The second section was all about educating us on the night sky and using two incredible telescopes to see various types of star and formation. This second section was accompanied by wonderful food and drink which we had been contacted about in advance to accommodate any preferences and dietary requirements. We wouldn't hesitate to book this again if we returned to the Atacama Desert.

5.00This was like fulfilling my childhood dream, to see the sky this vivid as per what the books have been discussing. Jhonatan was very knowledgeable in discussing the important bits about astrology in simple terms which has been the highlight for me and my partner along with the view as well, the perfect photo and the way he taught us how to capture the night sky are just bonuses. That magical moment under the twinkling night sky will definitely be one of the most romantic nights I’ve had in my life. That as a start of our Chilean tour definitely made us want to come back again soon. I can’t thank you enough team
