Tikal National Park
The activity begins when we pick you up at your hotel, when booking, please choose the time according to the location of your hotel. In case you don't know the location of your hotel yet, just book the cheapest tour option, later you let us know your hotel location and if there is a price difference, you can pay it to our guide. The walking tour begins at Gate 2 of Tikal National Park at: From March 22 to September 21: at 4:00 am From September 22 to March 21: at 4:30 am DURATION OF EACH WAY OF TRANSFER BY LOCATION WHERE WE PICK YOU UP a. San Andres: 02h: 00m Tikal has two titles of UNESCO, it's cultural and natural heritage of humanity, that's why we'll spend more than six hours exploring different archeological monuments and to go from monument to monument, we'll use nature trails with a high chance of spotting some species of wildlife.
Temple IV
First thing, we will climb this temple with you to wait for sunrise from the top, enjoying the most wonderful view and the sounds of the waking up wildlife, then we will have breakfast up there. We developed the sunrise tour because our guests deserve to see Tikal first thing in the morning to appreciate wildlife when it is more active as well as at the end of the day. The main attraction of this tour is the awakening of the jungle with the noise of birds and howler monkeys, the sunrise is seen only 20% of the time, as it is usually cloudy or foggy. The official name of this temple is Temple of the Double Headed Serpent, as when the temple was discovered, it had a wooden carved lintel with the sacred double headed serpent carved on it, now this wooden carving is in a famous museum. The nickname of this temple is Temple of Star Wars as back in 1977 the movie director George Lucas came to Tikal to film part of the original Star Wars Movie, Episode IV "A New Hope"

5.00Marlon is an exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly guide. He asked what we were interested in and adapted our tour to suit. We saw so much that others missed because Marlon is so familiar with Tikal and the secrets it hides. We are very pleased we chose to tour with Marlon; from the coffee and snacks to begin, through to the excellent lunch at the end, temples, palaces, tales of the past, birds and animals, amazing scenery ... he (and Tikal) delivered it all! 100% recommend GEM Trips. We also used them for a separate transfer and the driver, Lucio, was brilliant too.
Fun, thorough, and meaningful tour! Plus, wildlife!

5.00Excellent tour of Tikal, extremely knowledgeable and interesting! Marlón is a fantastic guide, his depth of understanding of Tikal's history and that of the people who lived there is a joy. We enjoyed some delicious pupusas made by his wife on top of a Mayan temple for the sunrise tour, and then had plenty of time to walk around, climb, and otherwise savor the experience of Tikal. This tour made the whole experience much more meaningful to me - plus we saw a ton of wildlife and birds, all of which Marlón was able to identify and provide additional details about!
Skip sunrise, but Tikal is amazing!

4.00Overall opinion: do a regular tour. I don’t believe the sunrise tour was anything overly special for visiting Tikal. Had nothing to do with the weather, it just wasn’t worth the early wake up and limited time in the park. We got dropped off for lunch at 10am!! My guide spoke great English, but was really really into birds. At times this felt like a birding tour and I didn’t learn as much history as I would have liked. Didn’t see any other wildlife outside of birds. For my photographers out there, the lighting is better in the afternoon vs morning. I went back in the afternoon on my own and got way better photos vs that morning.

3.00Tikal and all its ancient glory made up for our guide. I cannot remember his name and that’s okay because my experience with him and another guide I had interaction with was less than optimal. They appear overworked, overwhelmed and generally just put up with their jobs and park guests, like me. I am 57 and generally able to get around pretty easily but my friend and I had a rough time keeping up with our sunrise group. They waited for us out of necessity not out of empathy. Basically our guide sucked.

5.00We absolutely loved having Jose teach us all about Tikal!! Having a guide makes ALL the difference! We went to Yaxha the day before without a guide and we were clueless on Mayan knowledge. Jose explained all about Mayan culture and the history of Tikal. Viator was the best way to have everything booked and planned before we came. Thank you Jose!!

5.00We were very fortunate to have Marlon as our guide. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our time. He is exceptionally knowledgeable, an excellent communicator, very respectful, and well-organized. He had a meticulously planned schedule for the 6-7 hours we spent with him. Furthermore, the breakfast prepared by his wife was absolutely delicious. I wholeheartedly recommend him and the tour.

5.00The best tour I have ever done - made particularly special by our guide Jose Moreno who was so knowledgable, funny and inspiring. Definitely recommend the sunrise tour for the experience of listening to the jungle waking up and beating the heat/crowds later in the day.
