Postbllok - Checkpoint Monument
Our first stop is Postblloku (Checkpoint Memorial), a powerful tribute to the victims of Albania’s communist regime. This open-air installation includes original elements from the dictatorship, such as a concrete bunker, a piece of the Berlin Wall, and steel supports from a forced labor camp. Located on Tirana’s main boulevard, it stands as a chilling reminder of the country's decades-long isolation and repression under Enver Hoxha

5.00Our tour guide Angjelo was very knowledgeable, friendly, and ready to answer all of our questions. A great introduction to modern Albania and its historical struggles, as well as to various political landmarks in Tiranë! (We were also the only ones on the tour which was excellent!!)

5.00We had an amazing two-hour tour around Tirana with Angelo, and it honestly exceeded all expectations. He explained the city’s history, culture, and political background in such a clear and engaging way that time just flew by. Angelo is knowledgeable, passionate, and full of great stories that make the city come alive. You can really feel how much he loves Tirana. Highly recommended to anyone visiting!

Better introduction to Tirana than a history of Tirana's communist past

3.00The tour was ok but not great. We had a bit of confusion around the start with a couple of the people taking the tour but ultimately started close to the 9am start time. Guide's English was pretty good. He made some tour guide mistakes in that he sometimes had his back to me or another member of the tour when he was explaining something. His voice didn't project well, so it was difficult to hear him sometimes. The tour itself was kind of light on info. In particular, it was a bit light on information about Tirana's communist past. The guide was knowledgeable but we sometimes had to pull information out of him. In the end, the tour was better for a general walking tour, kind of intro to Tirana, rather than a tour discussing the communist past.
