This is not another walking tour. These small group tours whisk you off the beaten path by private tuktuk and offer unlimited beer and soda while you and your English speaking guide watch the city pass by. You will eat where the locals eat at small, family-run businesses and try the best local food at places you can’t find on your own. After 3-4 hours, you will finish at local bar to try some rice wine or beer with the locals!

There are a million reasons Chengdu is an international food destination. It’s a UNESCO city of gastronomy. It’s the most popular Chinese cuisine in China. It has the highest per-capita ratio of restaurants in all of China. And at the same time, visitors know very little about food in Chengdu. Travel by tuktuk and encounter spots you could never find on your own for a mix of street food, sit-down restaurants, and family-run joints: Chengdu Street Crepes: This classic local street food comes in one of 4 flavor profiles: sweet, salty, spicy, and strange at a street-stall-turned-shop. Sichuan-style Wontons: Learn why locals call them “Chaoshou,” at a family restaurant where they’re made to order. All the Noodles: Originally served on the street by men who carried the ingredients around on bamboo poles, Dandan noodles are possibly the OG hawker dish. Classic Sichuan Dishes: Sample local delicacies like Mapo Tofu (there’s plenty of not-so-spicy dishes here too).

Must do food tour!! Delicious food and drinks and the tour guide Fiona was really lovely and informative and even gave us recommendations for other activities and restaurants for the rest of our stay. Could not recommend a lost plates food tour more!

Iris was a fantastic guide who spoke English very well. Most of the restaurants we stopped at were great and we certainly tried some very good Dan Dan Noodles and Tonshou. What let this tour down was the last restaurant we attended. The food was mediocre compared to our meals we ate on other tours. The evening finished in a very eclectic wine bar which we loved. One thing to point out is that the tour does not end at the meeting place as specified on Viator. The score of this review should not be seen as a reflection on the guide or her efforts, but rather on the quality of the food at a specific establishment and the tour not ending at the place specified.

This was such a fun evening . The tuk tuks are a nice touch , zipping you from place to place . Our host for the evening was Iris who knew exactly what she was talking about with regards to the food & she also gave really interesting historical context . We finished with local fruit wine in the cosiest bar that you would never find . Kinda IYKYN place . This is a great tour & if you are lucky you will get Iris to guide you around the exceptional food offerings of Chengdu . Iris also kindly sent a comprehensive list of places we might like to visit while we are here & it’s been super useful . What an asset Iris is to Lost Plates

Wow ! Great food and a great guide (Monica) to some of Chengdu’s hidden secret food locations. A real mix of dishes and flavours (and as much beer as you could drink). My wife’s food allergy was taken into account and put us completely at ease. In short, looking for a few hours sampling all the delights the city of food offers, then choose Monica and the guys at Lost Plate.

I really enjoyed the local cuisine and the restaurants we visited since they all were so authentic and the food was excellent. Most importantly our guide Claire was amazing, very helpful and provided lots of information for both the food and the city.
