This is not another walking tour. These small group tours whisk you off the beaten path by private tuktuk and offer unlimited beer and soda while you and your English speaking guide watch the city pass by. You will eat where the locals eat at small, family-run businesses and try the best local food at places you can’t find on your own. After 3-4 hours, you will finish at local bar to try some rice wine or beer with the locals!

There are a million reasons Chengdu is an international food destination. It’s a UNESCO city of gastronomy. It’s the most popular Chinese cuisine in China. It has the highest per-capita ratio of restaurants in all of China. And at the same time, visitors know very little about food in Chengdu. Travel by tuktuk and encounter spots you could never find on your own for a mix of street food, sit-down restaurants, and family-run joints: Chengdu Street Crepes: This classic local street food comes in one of 4 flavor profiles: sweet, salty, spicy, and strange at a street-stall-turned-shop. Sichuan-style Wontons: Learn why locals call them “Chaoshou,” at a family restaurant where they’re made to order. All the Noodles: Originally served on the street by men who carried the ingredients around on bamboo poles, Dandan noodles are possibly the OG hawker dish. Classic Sichuan Dishes: Sample local delicacies like Mapo Tofu (there’s plenty of not-so-spicy dishes here too).

End the night trying house-made plum wine in a 70s-80s themed bar that captures a unique turning point in China’s history. The bar is a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station.

I've done quite a few tours in China, and George has been the best guide I've had! He was so friendly and kind, and he gave us so much information about the food and the history of each dish. He was just great company throughout the night - very chatty, warm, and accommodating. The food was also amazing and the plum wine was lovely. Would 100% do this tour again in the future without hesitation.

Your was a lot of fun and Daisy was great. The downside is that Dan Dan noodles back home are forever ruined by comparison to the ones we had on this tour.

All of the lost plate food tours are fabulous. Fiona was very informative and we went to some lovely places that I wouldn't usually visit. I highly recommend

Fantastic evening. Multiple stops, tons of food, got to try so much from iconic restaurants. Out host Susan was fantastic knowledgeable and thoughtful, and our drivers were great also. Loved having the stories and history attached to the dishes. Had a wonderful time with this group. We were like a little family by the end of it. Highly recommend.

This was a great good tour. Lots of delicious food and a warm wonderful opportunity to learn about the culture and cuisine of Chengdu. George the guide was terrific. He shared a lot of information that was both useful and fascinating. Highly recommend adding this to your Chengdu itinerary.

This has got to be the best tour I've ever joined in Chengdu! Our guide George was awesome – he totally brought every story to life. Especially that one about "wontons" actually coming from the action of crossing your arms? So cool! Had such a great time on this Chengdu food tour. Loved it!

What a great tour! Carefully curated local eats from one awesome location to the next. It was a treat! Our guide Fiona was very knowledgeable and explained every dish carefully. Lots of care taken to accommodate food preferences. Come hungry - you will leave very satisfied! Although I liked some dishes more than others, I can’t say there was a dish that I didn’t like. Another winner from Lost Plate!

We had a great evening with our guide, Iris. The best part of the trip to Kunkun was the pancakes, both sweet and savory, along with the spicy potatoes were amazing. The genuine atmosphere of this family-owned place created a wonderful vibe for the evening. Our next two places to visit, one for dumplings and the other for noodles, were really great as well. Sadly, the final stop really may have ruined the evening if we let it. The restaurant on the upper floor was filled with smokers. It was too much for my partner, who has asthma, and couldn't stay for more than a couple of minutes. The rest of the group didn't like this either. A review from October 2024 talks about the same problem, and the owners said they would address the feedback, but this place is still a stop on the tour.

We booked the tour due to our flight being canceled and rebooked for 2 days later. The tour guide explained the history of the food at each stop the tuk tuk took us to. The was so much food the group of 7 could not eat it. We got the food history but nothing about the city or Chengdu’s history or culture. The food was great to explore and try, the tour guide was good but did not share much of the knowledge and culture of Chengdu.
