Overnight in Breb
To begin this adventure from Cluj, you will be picked up from the hotel by your tour guide, and then we take a road trip to Maramures, the region that kept its traditions alive for such a long time. Your destination of the day is Breb, one of the most traditional villages in Maramures, that was first mentioned in documents in 1715. You will take a walking tour of the village, enjoy a traditional lunch and spend the night in a beautiful traditional hotel.

Merry Cemetery
Next up you will visit one of the most peculiar cemeteries in the world, the Merry Cemetery. Local craftsman and woodcarver Stan Ioan Pătras sculpted the first tombstone in 1935 gave birth to this tradition, and today the cemetery is filled with more than 800 colorful wooden crosses, with epitaphs.
Barsana Monastery
Next, we will see the religious side of the people from Maramures, by visiting some of the most beautiful churches in Romania, included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. We will admire two of the Wooden Churches of Maramures, Poienile Izei and Barsana, built and carved by local craftsmen as a gratitude to God. Our journey will then take us to the homes of some local craftsmen, where we will admire some of their work, such as the hand-carved traditional wooden gates, and the pottery. You will also be introduced to the most natural and ecological washing machine, Valtori – The Whirlpools of Maramures, the place where local women still go to wash their woolen, hard to handle rugs.
Cluj-Napoca City Hall
Romania is well known for its mountains, forests, beautiful landscapes, gorges, and waterfalls, and on our way back to Cluj we will stop to admire the beautiful landscape from Maramures. One of the attractions that you will surely fall in love with is the last virgin forest in Maramures, a place that is still pure and untouched by humans, home to more than 10,000 species of animals and plants, and a paradise for any tourists that steps inside. Next, we will be climbing heights to admire the lovely hill villages, beautiful scenery that will make you feel like in a Lord of the Rings setting.

5.00This 2 day tour to the northern part of the country was amazing. Our guide Florin was full of knowledge and history, very professional, English speaking and a fantastic driver. We were the only couple on the tour so enjoyed the one on one aspect of being able to ask anything. We experienced fantastic authentic meals in Breb and at an inn. We would never have been able to experience some of these stops if it wasn't for the tour. The only downside was the overall price was too expensive..

5.00Cătălin picked us up at our apartment and took us on a splendid excursion to several sites in Cluj county and then to several locations in Maramures. He is a very knowledgeable guide to the history and the culture of Transylvania. He had arranged lunch with a family and an overnight stay in the village of Breb. We stopped and visited several churches and monasteries. I cannot imagine a better experience. We look forward to future excursions and tours with Cătălin.

It has been quite an experience to know this spectacular mountainous area of Romania with our guide Florin, an excellent guide, who is waiting to give all the information and details possible. 5.00This two day private tour was the high point of the two weeks we spent in Romania for my friend and me. We were wonderfully fortunate to be guided by Ilona Farkas, who knew the area and its cultural and artistic significance well, and was eager to share her knowledge with us. It was a wonderful cultural experience and a very pleasant one with good food and lodging with welcoming, interesting people.

5.00This was such an amazing experience in the countryside of Romania. Everything was absolutely perfect. Our guide, Josif, really made the trip for us! He provided so much interesting information about the area and the history to provide us an understanding and background of the area. The overnight stay was very comfortable and clean. All the food stops were perfect too! I wouldn't change anything! I hope to return in 20 years to see what kind of changes will happen in another 20!

5.00We were thoroughly pleased with our two-day trip with Ioina (Joseph) into the Maramures. The culture and sites we explored were rewarding. But what really made this trip outstanding was Joseph's excellent explanations of the region's history and culture. We are educators ourselves, yet learned a lot from him. Thank you, Joseph.

She is very knowledgeable and went out of her way to tailor the trip to each of our specific interests.Of greatest interest were our visits and talks with local woodworkers, weavers, farmers etc. All would have been impossible without our guide. The tour made this, our first visit to Romania, so much more special and interesting! Many thanks Geta! Nir and Miri
