Is it safe?
Yes. You’ll be provided with safety instruction from our experienced guides who’ve spent hundreds of hours getting to know our resident school of sharks. Our guides will be in the water with you the entire time and will closely monitor the sharks behaviour to ensure your safety.
What type of sharks will I see?
There are two main species of sharks encountered, White Tip Reef Sharks and Black Tip Reef Sharks, both are common in the tropical warm waters of the South Pacific. Each species can grow to a length of just over 1.5 metres although under the water they appear 25% larger, a snorkeling face mask optical illusion. White Tips are the dominant species and are by nature an inquisitive shark not frightened to check you out. Their Black Tip relatives are by contrast timid and will shy away if they feel threatened.
How many sharks will I see?
Numbers vary but it is common to see up to six sharks.
How deep is the water?
Both Black Tip and White Tip Reef Sharks prefer shallower waters making snorkeling easy with good visibility. It’s even possible to see the sharks from our boat before entering the water. Water depth varies between 4 - 6 metres depending on the tide.
What if I’m not a good swimmer, haven’t snorkeled before or don’t want to snorkel but my travelling companion does?
Buoyancy aids are available for less confident swimmers and because these sharks prefer shallow waters there’s no necessity to dive under the water to secure a thrilling view. Non-snorkelers can join the day but sit out the snorkeling experience.

As Sharks are wild animals we cannot guarantee sightings however we have a 95% +success rate of sighting sharks. In the event that you don’t see any sharks we are happy for you to return for a complimentary “Ultimate Encounter - Snorkel with Sharks” within 3 days of your original cruise.
If poor weather and sea conditions result in the cancellation of the 'Snorkeling with Sharks experience,' a substitute snorkeling safari will be provided.
Please bring swimsuit, towel, protective clothing from the sun including a hat and sunblock, light jacket or sweater during the cooler months, money or credit card for optional purchases, your camera and sense of fun!

Departing Port Denarau, you’ll board our high-speed catamaran and travel through the Mamanuca Islands for 1 hour and 45 minutes, bound for Barefoot Kuata Island Resort in the southern Yasawa Islands. This resort boasts a picture-perfect beach, transparent turquoise waters, unusual rock formations, and warm hospitality. Shark Snorkelling Following a beachfront safety briefing with your experienced guides who’ve spent hundreds of hours getting to know the resident school of sharks, you’ll board a boat with your guides and travel to the reef shark site. The guides will be in the water with you the entire time and will closely monitor the shark’s behaviour to ensure your safety. The water depth at the snorkelling site varies between 4 and 6 metres and if you are not a confident swimmer, life jackets are available. Other Activities For the remainder of the day, enjoy lunch and make use of the snorkelling gear, kayaks, and paddle boards provided. Food and Drinks A delicious buffet lunch is included in your day trip and drinks can be purchased at the resort. If you require a vegetarian option, please specify in the ‘special requirements’ box when you go through the booking process.

5.00Lovely experience with South Sea Cruises Fiji for the cruise to Barefoot Kuata resort.. From there they take in speed boats (about 15mins) to the place where we can see the sharks while Snorkelling. The crew and guides were friendly and supported the visitors while snorkelling etc.. (about 45mins or so we could be in the sea and see the marine life) The food was very good too.. South Sea Fiji made it a very memorable day.. The highlight was also seeing baby sharks close to the shore. One area that requires improvement is the handling of the return transfers to the hotels. Most of them did not know where to get the buses and also struggling to know which bus to board.
Beautiful Day of Snorkeling with Sharks, but did not love the walk.

4.00Amazing snorkeling with sharks. Also a wonderful place to relax, with pools, lounge chairs, beautiful beach and a bar. Overall it was a great day. My only criticism was the long walk along the beach of hot sand and broken coral. We needed to walk that beach 4 times when boarding boats. Our feet hurt at the end of the day. Hopefully they will provide a different path in the future.

5.00The shark snorkel encounter was by far my favourite thing to do while in Fiji! The sharks were curious and we saw quite a few. The snorkel is only 45 minutes which was plenty for us as we were ready for lunch. The lunch selection was generous and delicious! For the rest of the day we snorkeled around the island and saw some baby sharks, coral and fishes of course. The island is beautiful and clean. Highly suggest booking this experience!

5.00This experience was absoloutely awesome. Snorkelling with the sharks was an absoloute highlight. The "base camp" on the island where had lunch and could spend the afternoon was beyond what we expected. The food was great, lots of space to spread out, pools to relax in and the opportunity to explore the island. Our son trekked to the mountain summit for some great views. The guides were great and everything was run very smoothly.

4.00Communication was great in the lead up to the day. Great price for a long day trip with food, transfers etc. Only downside is the experience itself is only about 45min in the water. When compares to the whole day, it would be nice to have longer with the sharks and less island time. Overall, well worth it though.

4.00Expect 2 hours each way on a ferry to the site and back. The shops at the port were closed when we left and when we returned, so no chance to shop at Port Denarau, despite being therefor an hour before leaving. A couple of the cafes were open, if you wanted breakfast. We absolutely saw sharks and they were (safely) swimming around us. It was amazing. The tour guides were great and very flexible. Our younger daughter was a little scared to get in but she was fine on the boat and eventually we were able to convince herto get in and then she had a great time. Parton her fear was that the equipment she was given disnt fit her well - the mask was way too big and her fins disnt fit either. She ended up leaving the fins on the boat and made do with a mask that was uncomfortably too big. She is a small 11 yr old. Had i known, i wouldve brought her gear from home with us. Lunch was delicious and offered a variety of foods. After lunch, we were given the option to snorkel the beach or movies some items for sale by the local women. We had more than enough time to do both - we snorkeled foran hour and saw baby sharks among the beach coral. After doing both of these things, we still had an hour at the dive center/bar. As we had kids with us and weren't drinking, it was kind of a long hour waiting for the ferry. We felt the post lunch time could have been better scheduled or organized.

4.00It was lovely! Awesome to see the sharks and the crew were all very happy and friendly. Lunch was incredible. Would recommend to anyone! We saw a lot of sharks and got to get very close.
Amazing time, seeing sharks was incredible and definitely get sumi to make you a coconut bandana !

5.00Amazing day, so well planned from start to finish, seeing the sharks was incredible and the staff took such good care of you in the water, the villa was so beautiful with incredible staff that helped with anything you needed. Sumi is a Fijian god that can make anything out of coconut leaves he made us bandanas and a bag it is mesmerising to watch best experience ever would highly recommend
