In the upper town, we visit profitis ilias church, an ottoman monument, osios david church, the monastery of Vlatadon and other hidden places. We speak about a big fire, the Τurks, the Jews, the mt Olympus, greek mythology, a religious masterpiece of art, music (rebetico), St paul, the story of the greek refugees from Turkey and other stories.
Through this tour, we are going to feel the soul of this neighborhood, we are going to find out why this area is so special and why the locals love it so much! We are going to literally travel back in time, to see how was Thessaloniki in the past but also how is now.

5.00We liked the city of Thessaloniki thanks to the skill of our guide. Giorgos is a very cultured boy who, with his stories, took us into the most intriguing meanders of Thessaloniki history. During the visit he was able to make us imagine the various eras that gave prestige or decadence to the city. His anecdotes and stories have captured and kept our attention alive. The gem was the musical parenthesis during which he played the bouzouki and sang songs related to Rebetiko. Highly recommended!!!!

5.00Georgios was the best guide! He was accommodating when we had an issue before the tour, courteous and very informative the entire tour! We learned many things we didn’t know about the history and culture of Greece and specifically Thessaloniki. He was able to answer all our questions, and let us walk at our pace. The hidden gems he showed us were the highlights of the tour! We highly recommend this specific tour as it takes you to the real neighborhood with real Greeks just living life and loving one another. So for us, it was very authentic!

5.00What a delightful surprise to learn Thessaloniki has another town hidden from plain view! Giorgos’s tales of upper town, its little secrets, incredible art, and long history were unveiled before us as he took us behind the wall to learn of its delights. We enjoyed every bit , and even the neighbors came out to share a song with him as he serenaded. Highly recommend!

5.00Loved the tour and the guide! Georgios was the best. He accommodated us when we had an issue the day before, met us on time but most of all gave us a wonderful tour of the somewhat unknown upper town of Thessaloniki and some hidden gems along the way! We highly recommend him for your guide and if you love history and interesting facts about the ruins and churches and culture and history you will love this tour and Georgios. All the beautiful kitties, we met along the way, and especially his friend who followed us quite a distance were just an extra bonus!

5.00Giorgos/George is funny, engaging, but above all knowledgeable! We had no idea what to expect - from the tour, from Saloniki, or from Greece - as this was our very 1st visit to the country and our 1st place within Greece. Giorgos helped us quickly fall in love with Thessaloniki, the culture, the history, the people... and of course the food!! His Ano Poli tour is not to be missed and will help make all your travels through the city (and throughout Greece) more robust.

5.00Giorgos loves his city and the stories he tells reflect this. His presentation was both entertaining and informative. He was kind enough to correspond with us prior to our tour and gave us excellent reading recommendations. My husband and I are history buffs, Giorgos’ knowledge and perspective really added to our understanding of the history of this diverse city. He is an excellent tour guide and made our trip to Thessaloniki a memorable experience. Highly recommend Giorgos as a tour guide!

5.00We visited Ano Poli with Georgios and we liked it very much. It is a rich, interesting and full of surprises. Georgios knows everything about his city, from the reason for the cut off ears of cats to the small Byzantine church and its secret. We highly recommend this tour, also with children.

5.00We had an amazing time in upper town with Giorgos. He recalled everyone’s name in our party of 9 and always addresses each person directly, such a great personal touch. His knowledge of the history of Thessaloniki was incredible. He was also great at tailoring the experience to our group. You can tell he has deep passion for the city and the people and truly loves what he does. The tour completely exceeded our expectations. Highly recommend 10/10. Thank you Giorgos

5.00The guide George was great ! Very informative, clear , answered yo all questions and kind . George has a tonnes of knowledge and he knows how deliver it to tourists. Enjoyed a lot and definitely will recommend to my friends to go to the tour with George
