Poor value, book yourself and get a digital audio guide

2.00We paid €281 for this tour, but it was very poor value compared with a self-guided visit. Official Vatican entry is €20, and the official digital audio guide is €8, so a non-guided visit would have cost only €28 total, or €33 with the official online booking fee. The guide was clearly knowledgeable, and this is not a criticism of her personally, but most of the commentary was not understandable in the crowded rooms, so we often did not know what we were looking at. The guide also did not lead us through the Sistine Chapel and left us at the entry stairs, and we did not skip any lines. In hindsight, the self-guided option would likely have been cheaper, clearer, and more useful.
