Join us for a tour of the Reykjanes Peninsula, an area marked by powerful geological activity. You’ll see Iceland’s youngest lava fields and visit the town of Grindavík, where devastating earthquakes split roads, lava flows damaged houses, and residents were forced to evacuate.
During the tour, you’ll explore a geothermal area with numerous hot springs, admire the scenic lake Kleifarvatn, see Iceland’s oldest lighthouse, cross the bridge between continents, and ancient lava fields covered in soft, vibrant moss, all over.
!!!
The Reykjanes Peninsula, especially around Grindavík, remains geologically active. While no lava is currently flowing, an eruption could resume at any time. If that happens and certain areas close, this tour will adapt into an active volcano experience, stopping at the best possible viewpoint to witness the eruption—if conditions allow.

Kleifarvatn Lake
Kleifarvatn is the largest lake on the Reykjanes peninsula and a sight to behold. The road along the lake is probably one of the most under rated tourist roads int the country which hugs the lake’s shore. The tall mountains on the other side, make the drive alongside the lake nearly as fun as stopping to admire it from various vantage points. Fun Fact: In the year 2000, Kleifarvatn lost 20% of its water, when a fissure opened after an earthquake. The water drained into the nearby North Atlantic ocean through a subterranean channel. It has since recovered almost entirely.
Krysuvik
On the fissure zone between 2 tectonic plates running across Iceland lies the large geothermal area of Krýsuvík. Within this area is Seltún, a geothermal field, where volcanic fumeroles, mud pots and hot springs have formed. The result of the geothermal activity is a landscape seemingly painted bright yellow, red and green; a result of sulfur interacting with the other minerals in the soil.

It was a day trip of about 8 hours from Reykjavik to the south shore to see volcanic areas, Grindavik town and lava fields. The guide was excellent, explained the volcanic activity of the area. He drove deep into the volcanic fields to show how the lava destroyed the road.

Sightseeing, well-organized and conducted tour with an outstanding guide (Einar), who competently with many knowledge of nature, culture and numerous details has given a wonderful day and could fulfill the wishes of his mid-Islands!

I did this tour with my mother who has knee issues and was low-mobility (using a cane to walk). We enjoyed all the locations and the information provided by the guide. Many Iceland excursions/tours would have been too physically challenging for her, but this tour was perfect! Each location was pretty easy for her to navigate. The most challenging was walking to the lava fields, but she went slow and our guide was very understanding and helpful. He even supported her a few times and showed her the best places to step. Very helpful and accommodating. The guide also discovered it was my birthday and somehow got me a cupcake and candle, very sweet.

Peter was an excellent tour guide. He came with us every step of the way including the climb up to the crater. The weather was not really cooperative but it did make for some great pictures. Peter told us all about the recent eruptions and the history of the volcano. He was very knowledge about the area and answered all our questions. I would recommend this tour. The sky lagoon was also an amazing end to a rainy day.

Walking the lava field is amazing but hiking up the volcano in miserable weather not so amazing. If it's a nice day go ahead but highly recommend you only go half way on a rainy day. If you spare yourself you can enjoy the sites more. The lagoon is wonderful after a cold hike and very beautiful. Peter was swoll, funny and a hell of a hiker. He was our favorite guide throughout the trip.

Hiking an actual brand new lava field was a phenomenal experience! The hike up the monstrosity of a hill to see the caldera was hard - not only is is STEEP (I fell a few times despite hiking boots), but the wind is strong and can push you around too. The additional sky harbor was a nice touch after a strenuous day!
