Only 4 passengers per vehicle. Home to the largest King Penguin colony, the Falkland Islands has over 1200 breeding pairs and will introduce you to them!

Volunteer Point is also home to numerous Gentoo and Magellanic penguins and a large variety of other bird life, and also boasts a long white sand-beach on which you can occasionally find a Sea Lion lurking.

This is a semi-private tour for 4 people per vehicle (4x4 vehicle).

We will be waiting you with a yellow sign with your name, we have yellow jackets and yellow signs. You will find us easily.

Jeep departs one hour after the ship docks.

Please do all that you can to get ashore quickly as it does make a difference.

We went to Volunteer Point with Jimmy Curtis Tours. Jimmy is the kindest, nicest tour guide ever. He's the person you want as you head off road. Forego the cruise expedition and arrange an excursion with Jimmy.

Jimmy could not have been a better guide, driver and chef (he made phenomenal Coronation chicken sandwiches for our packed lunch). He was extremely knowledgeable and so tolerant of being peppered with questions while driving out to Volunteer Point. I love the coloring of King Penguins, and we saw hundreds of them. To see sheep milling about next to penguins is so surreal, too!

Truly wonderful experience with the penguins and quite an “adventure ride” getting there. Had some difficulty with the brakes failing in the return which caused us some stress. Rather than move us to another vehicle, they chose to continue transporting us with failing brakes. This was not safe and should not have been allowed.

Absolutely fabulous experience. Had Jimmy the boss and he was great to talk to during the 2 hour trip to King Penguins galore and very up close. He had the land rover which wasn’t as comfortable as his Land Cruiser so maybe ask for that if you are nice. He was so informative and knowledgable of not only the Falklands but general world. Lunch sandwich was super tasty. Highly recommended. Super close up photographic opportunities

This was the highlight of our trip and so grateful that our ship managed to get into Port Stanley. Weather wasn’t very inviting so we were soaked to the bone, but the fact we actually got there was an achievement. It is a long drive there but that is all part of the experience. Lovely to see the King penguins in their own environment along with their chicks. Roy our guide was very knowledgable and gave us a great insight into life in the Falklands. A great trip

It was easy to find the vendor on the pier - just as advertised. We had a great driver and the 4-wheel drive portion of the trip was a true adventure. The penguins were better than advertised and I say that even when we toured in a windy rainstorm. I gave this tour 5 stars, because it really was, but I must also mention one issue that we encountered. The tour was supposed to include bottled water and lunch. I sent 3 messages to the tour operator inquiring about a gluten Free meal for my wife and was told not to worry. After we saw the penguins, we came to the Land Rover for lunch and were told there was no gluten Free options. The operator said that he forgot and that he was going to own up to his mistake and not blame someone else. The problem is that the penguins are in the middle of nowhere and there were no options to purchase lunch. It would have been nice to have been told there was no lunch while we were still in town, so we could have purchased something beforehand. When we asked for bottled water, we were handed a thermos - also not what was advertised. I mention all of this for future travelers with dietary issues. The tour was great. I only wish the vendor had offered a small refund for the part (lunch and water) that we paid for but that was not available.

We had a wonderful day, but we’re unprepared for the long 4 x 4 ride over rough terrain. In the end, it was all worth it to see the penguin colonies but would have like more of a thorough description of the excursion so we could be better prepared going into it. All in all it was a wonderful afternoon. Our driver Teagan did a wonderful job of getting us there and back safely and provide valuable information.
Penguins were great! Ride not too much.

Falkland is a difficult island to get to as the wind and the waves can be strong - therefore delay in tendering is likely. Plus you cannot get on the first tender from the ship as you are not booking this tour thru them. Therefore the time spent with the penguins will definitely be less than 2 hours. Ours lasted only for 45 minutes. But seeing the King Penguins is a must! My major disapppointment is that we were not told that the travel time takes almost 5 hours in total and at least 2 to 2.5 hours of those are on very rough marsh land. Would have appreciated if the 4x4 we were in was more comfortable.
