• "Heartwarming Experience at Dog Shelter in Cape Verde"

  During our visit to this dog shelter in Cape Verde, we had an amazing experience. The volunteers were incredibly kind and dedicated, and the dogs were so sweet, eager for love and affection. I had the chance to walk and cuddle with them, which was heartwarming. The shelter owners have a big heart and genuinely care for these animals. It’s truly inspiring to see their efforts in giving these dogs a second chance. I highly recommend visiting and supporting this shelter—it’s a beautiful way to make a difference in the lives of these loving dogs.

  After arriving in Sao Vicente I was a bit shocked by the number of stray dogs in Mindelo. That’s why I started looking for an animal welfare organization online that I can support. And I became aware of Simabo. The association works for castration of stray animals, runs its own practice and a private shelter. You can also book accommodation in your own hostel to support the association. I was very pleased that you could book a visit to the shelter via Tripadvisor. What a great experience! A very lovingly run place where the dogs and cats who can no longer live on the street are doing well despite the difficult conditions. We were allowed to move freely around the entire grounds, play and cuddle with the dogs and take them for walks. I would have preferred to pack the dogs and take them home. The operators warmly welcome guests and are of course especially happy if you support the club and maybe even decide to give one of the great animals a new home! I will definitely donate monthly and who knows: maybe our next dog will come from Sao Vicente!

  Well located, very nice, a great rooftop terrace, and the warm Welcoming of Silvia, very invested for the protection of stray dogs from Cape Verde. No hot water, but it doesn't matter much. Kitchen accessible if needed.

  I spend 1 week in simabos’hostel and it was a great time, I really felt like at home, thanks everybody. I went to spend 1 day as well in the chenil and it was a great experience, I didn’t expect to feel so comfortable with the dogs, it was a day full of love. Thanks everybody to create such places. I hope to come back soon!

  Changing the life of one animal won’t change the world, but the whole world of this one animal will be changed. I’m Miriam, 31 years old, from Germany. I think that animals are better than humans, except these guys here from Simabo. These people are one of the greatest I’ve ever met. They put so much effort in their work with dogs, cats and also children. They change the world (for more than one animal). I’m having the great honor to be a part of their team for some weeks. I walk the dogs in the shelter, I cuddle the fluffy cats in my apartment and I can’t stop taking photos for Simabo. The animals here are just too adorable! Coming here wasn’t my plan. I work in the tourism industry and am usually quite busy. But right now with the worldwide Corona pandemic I have a lot of free time because nobody travels. For Simabo this is a really hard time because they need volunteers. Helping the animals here is not possible in the way it is with helping hands from travelers. Even though it’s not the best time to go abroad right now I decided to do it anyway. I made a Corona test and as soon as I got the negative result I traveled to Cabo Verde, the smallest country in Africa with a wonderful culture. I’m not a tough person. Seeing animals suffering makes me cry and cry and cry. But crying doesn’t help them, they need us! So what are you waiting for? Come and get to know this amazing place with this amazing Simabo team! They will help you having a great time here, even if you think your heart can’t make it. With Simabo you can be a hero!

• An indescribable emotion. A unique experience in Sao Vicente

  In Sao Vicente there is a place that not many know but that all those who want to experience real emotions should visit. This place is Simabo's kennel/shelter. During my stay in Sao Vicente I was lucky enough to find and stay at the hostel of this association of the same name and that donates the total proceeds to abandoned or stray animals of the island. In those days I managed to spend a few hours in this shelter that houses more than 130 dogs and I had the opportunity to make myself useful by taking some dogs for a walk and cuddling puppies. I had been to many other shelters/kennels in Europe before this and I must say that despite limited means, Simabo does a great job and tries to offer the best of lives to these unfortunate animals. The passion and love that the owners Silvia and Paolo have for the animals is real and demonstrate it constantly through the awareness initiatives for the population that they carry out on the island and the attention they devote every day, every day for dogs, cats, turtles and every living being. Experience definitely recommended both for the opportunity to enrich your heart with activities for animals, and because you will get to know extraordinary people and aspects of the island unknown to the mass.
