Hi, I'm Karin, founder of daslebenspueren.at. I organise and accompany guided hikes in the vicinity of Vienna. With a maximum of 4 people, the groups are small and private. It allows me to respond individually to the wishes and needs of the participants. The majority of the tours are easy to moderate.
Before we start our hike in the surrounding hills, we visit the famous medieval town of Durnstein. The hiking trail is considered one of the most beautiful in the whole Wachau region and offers fantastic views over the valley. The unique landscape has an almost Mediterranean touch with its holm oak forests. As well, we will visit the striking and well-preserved castle ruins of Durnstein before ending the day in one of the local wine taverns (optional).

Hike is of medium difficulty, you should be in good physical condition, sure-footed and enjoy walking
You must be free from vertigo.
Wear shoes with a good traction, hiking boots strongly recommended
Please bring a snack and water (min. 1 litre) for the day, sun- and rain protection
In case of bad weather (heavy rain) the tour might be cancelled.
Day trip I walking time: 3 hrs excl. breaks I travel time: approx. 2 hours back and forth
Please bring some money in cash (not all restaurants accept card payment)

It allows me to respond individually to the wishes and needs of the participants. We start our hike in the famous village of Durnstein. You will be delighted by its charm and the gorgeous landscape surrounding it. During our hike, we enjoy fantastic views over the rolling hills, Danube River, the castle ruins and the village. This unique landscape has an almost Mediterranean touch. After having reached the highest point of the hike, we continue with the ascent through a beautiful landscape with oaks and interesting rock formations, until we reach the castle ruins, where King Lionheart was imprisoned centuries ago. Walking time approx. 3 hours, depending on individual speed. In the end, we will have well-deserved lunch at a local wine tavern (optional) before heading back to Vienna. 5.00Karin is an amazing guide; kind, patient and knowledgeable. She took us on a beautiful hike in Wachau to the ruins where Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned. So breathtaking! And then finishing with a lovely meal at a local establishment to the area. You will not be disappointed! It was truly a fun adventure!
Climbing to castle ruins and Danube overlooks

5.00We hiked up a winding mountain trail with fabulous viewpoints overlooking small towns along the Danube River. One stop was at the ruins of the Durnstein castle. It was a vigorous climb, but well worth the effort! Our guide did an excellent job!

5.00Karin is an excellent host and guide. The logistics and activity schedule was thoughtful and well-planned. Hike was the perfect length followed by the opportunity to stop for a delicious meal. Karin is very easy to talk to and I thoroughly enjoyed her company along the journey. I recommend any of the itineraries that she offers!!
