Lets immerse ourselves in the diversity of local Antigua culture. Antigua, Guatemala dates back to 1543 and was the second capital of the Spanish colony. The nearly 500-year-old city is cradled by three volcanoes and accented with colorful facades of 16th century mansions. We we will visit ancient buildings that once were convents, monasteries, and churches, becoming this a beautiful introduction to the Guatemalan lifestyle and culture.

Our wonderful day around Antigua will be memorable and you will get a great orientation visiting San Francisco church, Parque Central, Santo Domingo, La Merced church, the street with the famous Santa Catalina Arch. We will also pass-thru some of our favorite spots, we will have time to enjoy local coffee, hot chocolate or refreshing sample beer. Be ready to fall in love with our little city.

One of the most emblematic stops in our ""Walk Antigua Like a Local"" experience is San Francisco el Grande. Here lies the tomb of Hermano Pedro de San José Betancur, Guatemala’s only saint. This site is a cultural landmark, attracting visitors from around the world who come together in a spirit of hope and inspiration, seeking to improve their lives through his legacy. Beyond religion, we included this sanctuary for its historical relevance and positive impact on current local life.

Casa Santo Domingo Museums

In the seventeenth century, the Convent of Santo Domingo was one of the largest in the Americas. The 1773 Santa Marta earthquake nearly destroyed it. Today, Casa Santo Domingo has risen from its ruins, offering visitors a beautifully restored site where every corner reveals meticulous restoration, blending history and elegance.

Our guide was friendly, fun, and knowledgeable about Antigua and its history. He adapted the tour to our interests and preferences. He also gave us helpful tips on practical issues such as ATMs and places to eat. Highly recommend.

This is a great tour to help get aquainted with the city and begin to understand the history of the land. Our tour guide was Roberto and he spent several hours walking us around and giving us lots of information not only of the places, but if the architecture, food, and local culture. I couldn't recommend this more. Wear good shoes because tou will walk a lot.

If you’re new to Antigua, do yourself a favor and book this tour with Roberto — it was hands down one of the best ways to get introduced to the city! From the moment we met, Roberto was incredibly friendly and welcoming, instantly setting a relaxed and fun tone for the whole experience. He was right on time, super organized, and made us feel like we were walking the city with an old friend. His deep knowledge of Antigua’s history, culture, and hidden gems brought the city to life in a way that guidebooks just can’t. He answered every question with enthusiasm and often added his own unique insights and stories that made the tour so much more than just sightseeing. Christina and her team were absolutely awesome . No query or request was too much for them . We are dearly sorry took us so long to review Columbus Travels what a fantastic organisation made us feel like family rather than clients . The attention to detail and wonderful suggestions for hotels , tours etc was amazing. We did several internal tours with this team ( and we had options ) never regretted choosing Columbus travel simply perfect

Antigua is a very nice place to walk around independently, but it was all the better to explore it with JJ - great guide, great guy! Learnt a load of things about Antigua past and present that we could never have picked up ourselves. As an aside, we also learnt a lot about Guatemala past and present from JJ, who gave us a load of refreshingly honest (I think) thoughts on a whole range of things, good and less good!
