From the towns of Arras or Albert we head out to the war scarred landscape of this region. The morning will be spent exploring the Battle of the Somme. After lunch we head to Vimy Ridge and the ground over which Canadian troops demonstrated their tenacity and courage during the capture of this strategically important feature.
Your experienced guide will tell you the history and how the war unfolded over these sections of the Western Front.
We only operate private tours, this will be your tour and adapted as necessary to meet your needs during the time. If you have any special sites, such as areas that involved your relatives, please ask as we are keen to adapt the tour specifically for you. With our years of living and working on these iconic sites we aim to ensure you leave with memories of the sacrifice of a generation.
Given suitable notice time and the availability of records we are able to research and prepare a bespoke tour to cover an individual soldier or unit.

Canadian National Vimy Memorial
You will have a guided visit and time to pay your respects at the stunning WW1 Canadian Memorial to the Missing whilst you learn about the actions that took place here in 1917. The tour also takes in the visitors centre with its tunnel and trench experience
Cimetiere du Cabaret Rouge
Here you will see the original grave site of the Canadian Unknown Soldier, along with the last resting place of thousands of his comrades. Afterwards we will also take time to stop at the nearby Neuville St Vaast German cemetery.

5.00Private tour with Alison was excellent. She is extremely knowledgeable about WW1 and provided just the right pace to the day. She also was flexible with the schedule knowing we might see some duplicate sites on a subsequent tour. We appreciated her lovely wit and sense of humour.

5.00Diane, our tour guide was outstanding! We could not have asked for more. We were 4 adults and she drove us to many of the Canadian memorial sites and adjusted it slightly due to the weather and it worked out perfectly. She was very knowledgeable & friendly and we had a few good laughs throughout our day. We were extremely impressed and appreciative that she took time prior to looking up a family member and shared all the details for us to take with us; wow! This was an outstanding private tour and well worth the cost and our time. We highly recommend!

5.00Our day was well organized and covered a lot of interesting sites . Allison was very pleasant, knowledgeable and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed the day with her and came away with a much better understanding of the events of WW 1 .

5.00Very moving to see all the lives sacrificed. It can be pretty cold at Vimy when the wind is blowing. Dress appropriately.

5.00We had an excellent tour of Vimy with Jon. He readily answered questions. He was familiar with the fighting a great uncle would have done with very little advance information. Jon shared stories of soldiers that made the experience real.

5.00We had a great day with John! Not only is he very knowledgeable about the wars and the region, he explains it in a way that you can imagine it all. John also took the time to get some information about both my grandfather’s WW1 tours and went to some of their posts, it felt that I was walking with them. Could not have asked for a better day!

The highlight for me was the conversation between sites and the dedication to detail she provided tensure we got the most out of the tour. Alison was an amazing guide, researched a family member and showed us the key spots in their story alongside the broader tour which gave us a great sense of what the Canadians did at the Somme and Vimy. 5.00Alison and John gave us a great tour of the WW1 battlefield area. We had particular family members who participated and perished in this war. They tailored the tour so that we could visit the graves and pay our respects. Every minute of this tour was a learning experience for us. In the morning Alison started with the Commonwealth War Grave Commission visitors centre followed by a tour of the many battlefields and monuments including Beaumont-Hamel. After a quick lunch John took us to the Vimy Ridge Memorial which included a tour of the tunnels by a young Canadian student working at the Vimy Memorial. John then took us to several Canadian war cemeteries and a German war cemetery. He also included the "Ring of Remembrance", a memorial to the more than 580,000 people who lost their lives in WWI, all in alphabetical order with no distinction of nationality, rank, gender or religion. John ended our tour with a visit to the original resting place of the Canadian Unknown Soldier who is now interred at the War Memorial in our nation's capital, Ottawa. Alison and John's knowledge of the history and the area and their tailoring the tour to our desires was excellent value for the cost. We highly recommend it!
