We had an awesome time learning about the Xunantunich ruins, their history and their present status while climbing to the top of the highest structure. What a view! We then drove out to the river and lazily floated down (while our guide was hard at work making sure we didn't bump into any rocks!) which took us through an incredible cave structure. The lights and colours and shapes in the cave were otherworldly. Highly recommend. Dimas was an awesome tour guide and he shared with us amazing information.

Our family of four — including our 16-year-old and 13-year-old — had an incredible day touring Xunantunich and cave tubing, and a huge part of that was our guide, Bern. He was extremely knowledgeable about Belize—its history, culture, and especially the Maya civilization. At Xunantunich, Bern brought the site to life with fascinating stories and historical context that made exploring the ruins so much more meaningful for all of us. During the cave tubing portion, he didn’t just guide us down the river—he explained the science behind the caves and their cultural and spiritual significance to the Maya. It made the experience educational while still being really fun for the whole family. Bern also did a great job making it adventurous for our kids, pointing out safe places where we could jump into the water, cool off, and relax while floating down the river. It was the perfect mix of history, adventure, and fun for our family. If you’re planning a tour in Belize, we highly recommend going with Bern—his knowledge, enthusiasm, and great attitude made this one of the highlights of our trip.

We had Dimas as a tour guide and he spent the entire day with us. He showed a deep knowledge and reverence for the Mayan sites, on the first leg of our tour at Xunantunich, explaining its history and how it fitted into the larger Mayan empire. He delighted us by pointing out specific symbols, glyphs, and at one point encouraged a shy tarantula to peak out of its hole. The trip to the cave tubing site was uneventful and he even playfully tolerated our made up game of spotting horses along the way. The stewed chicken lunch at the caving park was perfect and sent us off on very happy bellies. The park hosting the cave tubing is very nicely kept and you can tell the the Belizeans have gone out of their way to ensure a comfortable experience here. The equipment is well kept, the guides are organized and well trained, and the park staff are friendly. Once fed and outfitted, we walked the approx mile to the put-in on relatively wide flat forest trails with the occasional river crossing never deeper than 18” or so. While not full accessible for people with mobility issues, it was a relatively soft introduction to a tropical forest. The cave tubing was beautiful, serine, and delightfully easy going (we were told that the river was particularly low, so conditions might be different with higher water levels). While not a thrill ride, it was a fun way to see the caves and some of the river. We felt safe and cared for all day. Would definitely recommend!

What a great experience! Our guide, Pedro picked us up at our hotel. He was very kind right off the start. Then, he was so knowledgeable in explaining all about the Mayan ruins. He was very gracious and patient with us the whole time. Then, the cave tubing was even better than we expected. Pedro was wonderful at keeping us in the right place in the river, and we felt very safe to just enjoy the cave. Our lunch there was traditional chicken and rice and beans. Sounds plain, but it was delicious. We would definitely recommend requesting Pedro. We couldn't imagine a better guide.

I had no tours book ahead of time at all for my trip and met Reuben in downtown San Ignacio. He was very friendly and down to earth. I decided on this tour, and it was the perfect mix of outdoors plus archaeology and cultural knowledge. Our guide Goldborn had 15+ years of experience. Hearing him talk was reading a detailed history or anthropology book. He was also Maya himself, and knew a lot about his language, the ancient mythology, lore, culture, and local plants and wildlife. Xunantunich is one of the few Mayan sites with a restored facade and carvings, so that was very unique to see. Goldborn described all the details of what was being depicted. For the cave tubing, I live in Alaska and am used to heavy mosquitos. We were encouraged to bring mosquito repellent, but it definitely was not needed. There were virtually no mosquitos. It was a sunny day, but never too sunny or hot. I'd recommend closed-toe shoes for both portions of the tour. Full coverage like a long-sleeved rash guard would be nice, but not needed. Lifejackets are provided. The caving portion was very easy, safe, and child-friendly. I didn't want to slip and fall walking around a cave, like I've heard happen on the ATM tour, so the tubing ride was perfect for me. You didn't need to leave the river and climb around the cave at all, but you could still see everything with your headlight. The food was stewed chicken, beans and rice, and a salad with local hot sauce. Beer and alcohol was available for purchase. Soda and water were provided. The chicken tasted very fresh. There was an opportunity at both sites to buy lots of local souvenirs. The only thing that could have improved the tour could have been some waterfalls. I think the only tour with waterfalls is Pine Ridge Forest. I'm not sure if there are any waterfalls nearby, or if that would even be feasible, but we didn't get the chance to see any waterfalls, and that was a bit sad. Shout out to Goldborn for being the GOAT!
