What To Expect

Yala National Park

Embark on a thrilling wilderness adventure into YALA National Park, home to the world's most concentrated population of leopards! Sri Lankan leopard is a leopard subspecies native to Sri Lanka. YALA boasts approximately a hundred individual leopards. We aim to be in the YALA National Park in the first two hours of the day (6 to 8 a.m.) and/ or the last two hours of the day (4 to 6 p.m.). In the vernacular of wildlife enthusiasts, this is called "Golden Hours" which gives you the highest chance of spotting the elusive Sri Lankan leopards. Accordingly, we have planned 4 separate safari options for you to choose from. - Morning - Afternoon - 7-Hours - Full-day Within these tours to YALA, we will be able to give you opportunity to witness Sloth Bear, Elephants, Crocodiles, Monkeys, Spotted Dears, Mongoose, Birds and a plethora of other mesmerizing species. With every moment promising an unforgettable encounter, YALA offers a sanctuary where the extraordinary becomes the norm.

Highly recommended, we enjoyed so much, on time and very helpful. The jeep driver showed us all the animals in yala national park and was very prompt. Must visit.

Naja was amazing. We were picked up from the hotel on time and reached the Yala Entrance before 6am. The first 2 hours were for spotting the leopards and Elephants. We kept looking for 1 and Naja got an information from a fellow chauffeur spotting a leopard. He drove to the spot as fast as possible and there we saw a beautiful leopard resting by the road. Post a short coffee break, we saw the king of the Yala National Park - Lucus(the leopard). I personally feel a well connected safari guide is needed and Naja seems to be one. He gets information about animals on time and is aware of the place well. We saw 2 leopards, 4-5 elephants, wild buffaloes, monkeys, monitor lizards and many birds. I would highly recommend!

The whole experience was very disappointing. We booked a tour with ajith safari tours and it stated explicitly that we get a Toyota Hillux, but that was not the case. The tour also stated that we would be getting an professional, English speaking driver. This was also not the case. The driver could only say the names of some of the animals, but every question resulted in a smile followed by silence. There was a ranger in the car on tha way to yala, so we assumed he would be joining us for explanation, but he left when we arrived. Our driver stood still for about 2 hours of the 4 hour tour to try to spot a jaguar, but he didn't ask or tell us anything about what we should be looking for and asking him resulted in being shushed that we needed to be silent. He only seemed to be very enthousiastic to stop for pictures of monitor lizards, animals which you already see plenty of on the island. Furthermore there seemed to be a problem with the shock absorbers. All other cars were passing us all of the time, because if our driver tried to go a bit faster, the car would shake uncontrollably. All in all we left the park not amused and cannot recommend this experience to anyone. We would appreciate it very much if something can be arranged regarding the costs we've paid.

What a fantastic afternoon. Our driver Kasun B was great at navigating the difficult terrain and getting us to see all the animals. We saw Elephants, crocodiles, water buffalo, a mongoose and lots more. The highlight was seeing the leopard crossing the road and being the only people there to witness it.

Vishwa made sure we were one of the earliest visitors in the park and drove like a crazy person, which we loved. He was in a group which shared information with each other over the phone which made us the earliest trucks to see the leopard, elephants and many other animals. Kind guy. Definitely deserved a good tip!
