Yoga is India’s gift to the world. The word yoga literally means ‘union’, union of the body, mind and soul. It is an ancient discipline that originated in India around the 6th century B.C. and was embraced by the rest of the world in the 20th century. There have been several gurus in India, who have each made a significant contribution in teaching yoga in India and abroad. Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, simply known as Sadhguru, is one such proponent of the ancient science of yoga. Through his Isha Foundation that has over 200 centers worldwide, Sadhguru is engaged in spreading awareness about the benefits of yoga. On this half-day trip, spend some time at Isha Yoga Center, the headquarters of the Isha Foundation near Coimbatore.

You will be picked up from your hotel in the morning and driven to Isha Yoga Centre that is about 18 miles distance from Coimbatore. The first thing that catches your attention when you arrive at the Center is the 112 feet high bust of the Hindu God Shiva, called Adiyogi. The Guinness Book of World Records has declared it to be the world’s largest bust sculpture. The statue is named Adiyogi, which means “the first yogi”, because Shiva is known as the originator of yoga. The height of the statue, 112 feet, symbolizes the 112 ways to attain liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth that are mentioned in yogic culture. The number also represents the 112 energy points in the human body. The Center also has a Dhyanalinga, a unique energy form kept under a pillarless 250,000 brick dome. It is the venue for daily sessions of chanting. Experience the powerful vibrations of this unique structure by spending some time in silent meditation here. It is a symbol of the universality of all religions. Later you will be driven back to Coimbatore and dropped off at your hotel.

2.00No Compassion and care for all living beings We recently visited the Isha Centre in Coimbatore, known for its magnificent Shiva statue. While the spiritual atmosphere and architecture are impressive, we were deeply troubled by what we observed regarding the treatment of animals on the premises. We noticed cows and bulls being restrained in a manner that appeared distressing—their necks and one of their legs were tied together. This raised concerns about their comfort and well-being, as such restraint seems likely to cause pain and restrict natural movement. Additionally, bulls are used to transport visitors from the entrance into the ashram, and we witnessed instances where they were struck when they did not move quickly enough. What makes this especially difficult to understand is the deep spiritual symbolism associated with these animals. In Hindu tradition, the bull is revered as Nandi, the sacred vehicle (vahana) of Lord Shiva. It feels contradictory to honor Lord Shiva with such a magnificent statue while seemingly failing to extend the same reverence and compassion to the animals that are so closely associated with him. It is hard to reconcile these observations with the values of compassion and care for all living beings that a spiritual center is expected to embody. We sincerely hope that greater attention can be given to ensuring the humane and respectful treatment of animals at this place.

Pathetic Parking Arrangements

1.00While the premises are neat and clean and the caretakers are polite and friendly, the parking situation is downright pathetic. If you plan to drive here and stay in one of the cottages, be prepared to park your vehicle 1.2 km away from the reception, outside the main premises. Families should be especially cautious, do not assume you can bring kids along with the comfort of nearby parking. You may end up carrying them back on your shoulders through a muddy, unorganised, dusty stretch that feels unsafe and exhausting. The most frustrating part is not the lack of space, there is plenty of it within the premises near the reception. Yet, the guards insist on making you move the car, without any logical explanation. This makes the entire setup feel impractical, inconsiderate, and poorly managed. There is no point in booking the more expensive rooms. Stay with the basics. Services are more or less the same. We booked the best room available.

4.00Visiting Isha Foundation in Coimbatore was a truly calming experience. The Adiyogi statue is massive and inspiring, and the surroundings are very peaceful. We attended the evening light show, which was amazing! The place is clean, well-maintained, and perfect for anyone seeking spiritual vibes or a quiet day trip. Don't forget to carry a water bottle and wear comfortable shoes. A must-visit if you're near Coimbatore!

4.00Visited the centre for first time . Very crowded but loved it early morning h visit to the adi yogi , linga Bhairavi, and dhayanalingam. We were not told that the rooms will not have bath towels. Walking bare foot and long walks can be an issue for some . Also the ox being used for rides is cruelty which should be stopped . One bull was badly hurt on his neck and running against the pole. Had to tell the staff there to look at that bull and provide him some treatment . It could be from the Ali g that they put in their neck to pull the cart . That sling is of leather kind material rather than cotton / cloth so guess that can leads to hurting b their necks
