Hagia Sophia, located in Istanbul, Turkey, is one of the world’s most remarkable architectural masterpieces. Originally built in 537 AD as a Byzantine cathedral by Emperor Justinian I, it later became a mosque under the Ottoman Empire, then a museum in the 20th century, and once again a mosque in 2020. Its massive dome, stunning mosaics, and unique blend of Byzantine and Ottoman styles make it a symbol of cultural and religious history. Today, Hagia Sophia continues to inspire millions of visitors from around the globe.
Basilica Cistern
The Basilica Cistern, built by Byzantine Emperor Justinian in the 6th century, is a vast underground water reservoir that once supplied the Great Palace and surrounding buildings in Constantinople. Measuring about 140 by 70 meters, it covers nearly 10,000 square meters and could store around 100,000 tons of water. Inside, 336 marble columns, many reused from earlier Roman structures, rise from shallow water and create the atmospheric setting that inspired the nickname “Sunken Palace.” The famous Medusa Heads and the “Weeping Column” add a touch of myth and mystery, making the cistern one of Istanbul’s most evocative historic sites.

5.00Muhammad is a terrific tour guide!!! He explained the history with the details to us including the material and the building methodology with us patiently so that we can appreciate the history and the building to the most. He engaged our young boys of 5 and 6 with interesting questions so that they can understand from what they know. He answered our questions in details patiently and we had a great time!

5.00Muhammet was a fantastic guide. My husband and I had visited Hagia Sofia a few times in the past. This time we had our adult daughters with us so we thought a guide could be useful. We all learned so much with Muhammet. He graciously took his time with us telling us about his country, his faith, the history and the special places in Hagia Sofia. We all truly enjoyed the experience and have a greater appreciation for this beautiful place.

5.00Our guide Muhammet made the experience so wonderful, and he clearly knew his stuff. His stories about the history kept me paying attention the whole time and made me feel engaged. We had a great coffee break and lunch at a spot he told us about. It was just a lovely day all around, thank you Muhammet!

5.00This was an absolutely fantastic tour experience! Our guide, Muhammet, was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and very engaging throughout the entire day. His way of explaining history made everything come alive and kept the group interested from start to finish. Even though it was a full-day tour, everything felt very relaxed and well-paced thanks to his excellent organization. We never felt rushed at any point, and there was always enough time to enjoy each stop properly. We also appreciated the well-timed breaks for coffee and lunch, which made the day even more enjoyable. The itinerary was thoughtfully planned, and his local recommendations for shopping and exploring were really helpful. Both our teenage kids and we as adults had a wonderful time and learned a lot. Thank you, Muhammet, for such a memorable and enjoyable experience!

5.00This was a truly excellent tour! Our guide was Mustafa Kemal Baştürk (also known as Jack) and he was not only incredibly knowledgeable, but as a teacher, he was engaging, funny and his English was perfect. I was concerned about the full day tour but Jack made the day fly by. It was great pace with time to get a coffee, lunch, spend as much time as we wanted at each location and he was an excellent guide for shopping too. Our 21 year old daughter and 23 year old son also had a blast. Thank you for this wonderful experience!

5.00Muhammet has a real interest in the history of the area and is very personable. The depth of his knowledge kept the tour interesting for the history buffs but also did not seem to overwhelm those only seeking background information. He was not pushy on visiting vendors after the tour but did offer insights to a couple of shops. The restaurant he recommended was fantastic.
