The Real Tour of Communism will take you through all of the major aspects regarding the life under communist rule in Romania which lasted officially from 1948 to 1989.
The Communism era was marked by the dictator Nicolae Ceausescu who ruled Romania for most of this period (1965-1989).
We will discover the landmarks of the Communist era to understand how the city's architecture was influenced and changed for ever. But also the former locations of the Secret Police where Romanians were interrogated and tortured too.
The tour ends in the Revolution Square where Nicolae Ceausescu had his last speech on Dec 21st 1989 few days before he was executed together with his wife.

5.00Tudor was a great guide that provided us with amazing insight into the history of communism within Romania, the current state of the country, and the lasting effects of the regime. He had some great photos to provide context for the events we were discussing. He pointed out so many buildings from the communist era that we never would’ve noticed otherwise. We also got to enjoy some snacks from the communist regime and a nice coffee break before the second half of the tour. The pace was easy for all ages and fitness levels. Definitely worth it if you have 3-4 hours free while visiting Bucharest.

The tour provided a fascinating look at Romania’s communist past, helping me understand not only the historical events but also how they continue to shape the country today. The route was well planned, engaging, and filled with interesting stories that brought history to life. A special thank you to our guide, Mihai. His knowledge, passion, and ability to explain complex historical topics in an accessible and engaging way made the experience truly memorable. What I appreciated most was how he combined historical facts with personal insights and local perspectives, giving the tour a much deeper and more authentic feel. Mihai was also incredibly friendly, patient, and happy to answer questions throughout the tour. His enthusiasm for the subject was contagious, and the three hours flew by (he even went a bit over). I also appreciated the correspondence that I had with him via WhatsApp prior to the tour. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bucharest who wants to gain a deeper understanding of Romania’s history and culture. Thank you, Mihai, for an excellent experience!
