Kashgar-Karakoram Highway-Oytagh-Baisha Lake-Karakul Lake-Tashkorgan
Karakoram Highway
After breakfast, we set off on our journey along the Karakoram Highway which is indeed both one of the ten most dangerous highways in the world due to its high altitude and challenging conditions, and also one of the most beautiful with the magnificent scenery of the Pamir Plateau rewrite. After about 50 Kms, we stop at Upal Village. Here, buy some fresh fruits, nang (a kind of local bread) and other food for the journey. Meanwhile, you can also taste some local snacks like baked buns and experience the atmosphere of the local village market. Then continue to drive to the Oytagh Red Mountain and stop for taking pictures to record the wonderful moment and feel the amazing power of nature and the grandeur of the Kunlun Mountains.
Keep driving to White Sand Lake (Baisha Lake). The lake water is clear and blue while the sand dunes are snow-white, forming a unique landscape. Walk along the lakeside, enjoy the beautiful view of the lake and mountains, and take pictures.
Karakul Lake Tours
Then continue to visit Karakul Lake (3600m above sea level). The lake sits at the foot of the notorious, Muztagh Ata (7546m) and Gongur (7719m) mountains. ‘Muztagh Ata’ means Father of the Ice Mountain and is one of the most beautiful and mysterious mountains in the world. You can take a break by the lake, admire the magnificent reflections of Muztagh Ata and nine peaks of Kongur Mountains. Lunch will be at the lake side restaurant as your like and then continue the journey to Taghrma Wetland which is the largest wetland in Tashkurgan, with lush grass and flocks of sheep and cattle.Once arrive at Tashkurgan check in your hotel and later taste local delicacies in the town, such as yak hot pot, plateau mutton and so on. Then have an early rest to adapt to the high-altitude environment.

Tashkurgan Fort
After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll have an opportunity to visit the town's ancient Stone Fort - still standing after 2200 years! 'Tashkurgan' means 'Stone Fort.' Many scholars believe that this crumbling stone castle was mentioned in Ptolemy's geographical guide in the 2nd century BC. After that, hike around the golden grassland beside the stone castle. After having lunch in Tashkorgan, we'll drive to Kashgar. Along the way, if you're interested, you can visit Muztagh Ata Glacier Park and touch the real glacier with your own hands

5.00Alim is an amazing tour guide and an excellent driver. We felt extremely safe and well taken care of throughout the trip. He gave us great advice on the best spots to stand for performances and shared helpful tips that really enhanced our overall experience. In terms of value for money, we do find it a little pricey for just an overnight trip to Tashgergan. However, we understand that it is difficult to find an English speaking driver. Alim is by far a very professional guide and his English is very good.

5.00This tour allowed us to fully enjoy Lake Karakul, Lake Baixa, and Peak Muzturk Ata. The itinerary was explained in advance and the pickup location was arranged quickly, which gave us peace of mind. The driver was also very kind, guiding us foreigners to ensure a smooth entry, and he supported us so that we could enjoy ourselves without any worries, even though we don't speak Chinese well. The glacier on Muztak Ata peak is at a very high altitude (about 4,600m!), so I was worried about getting altitude sickness, but I was able to get to the accommodation in Tashkurgan early the day before and rest, so it was fine.

5.00We arrived in Kashgar and looked for an agency to help us organise two days on the KKH. We found Ali’s office in the Qinibagh Hotel, and he was very professional and communication in English was very fluid, a rare thing to be noted in China! He tailored his tour to meet our needs and timing, travelling with 2 young children. We spent the next 2 days on the tour with Alim, an English-speaking driver who happened to be guide before. The beauty of the lakes, the climb to 4688 meters altitude to the glacier and the views on the Pamir mountains arround will be long remembered !
