The overall experience was simply wonderful and memorable. This excursion was well worth the money. Despite the long hours we spent travelling, we were able to see the real Sahara landscapes and cultures. Our guide was very knowledgeable and very friendly. I would highly recommend this trip if you are looking for a truly amazing Sahara experience. Well done!

Bad start, I was given by email the number of a person who was neither our driver nor our guide. We lost about ten minutes, but nothing serious. The stop in Kairouan lasted 30 minutes and not 3 hours as indicated in the experience. The mosque is only open in the morning and not on Fridays. The passage to Kairouan was made on Friday afternoon, so impossible to visit it or even the rest of the city. As stated in another review, it was mainly a souvenir shopping break. Star Wars sets are nice to see but there are very few explanations and info related to the movies. Visits on traditional Berber life and skills are very interesting. The coliseum is very impressive to see. The camel excursion is really to be done. It is a unique experience at the gates of the Sahara. The person who took care of us was very friendly. For the 4x4 excursion to the town of Star Wars, we came across a very nice driver who made us vibrate in the sand dunes. And above all, a comment really for our guide Hammadi (or Ahmadi I don't know) who was really helpful, always listening, gave us a lot of information during these 2 days. He was always careful and always warned us to be careful of people who wanted to sell us things we didn't want. Finally, I think this excursion is a good value for money for what we could visit and discover.

Picked up on time which was very early. Not enough time for breakfast Bus was lovely first stop at el Jem was great, wish we had maybe ten more minutes there as there were some nice looking cafes. Not enough time for food here. Next was at a cafe by a whale skeleton, this was not great as there were flies crawling over the food they were serving. We then went on to a troglodyte house which was very interesting and were given freshly made bread and mint tea after having an informative talk about Berber life and got to explore an actual still loved in troglodyte house. We left a small gratuity. The next stop was lunch at the Lars homestead from Star Wars. The lunch was great (maybe not best suited for vegetarians/vegans due to both courses the first course having eggs and the second chicken). Drinks here were 4 dinar. Exploring Luke Skywalker’s house was amazing and I would recommend this. Entry to this was no extra cost. Our next stop was a shop were you could get a traditional desert shesh, which is a scarf wrapped round the head with a section to cover your face. This would help if there are issues with sand in the desert. These cost 14 dinar each and I would highly recommend getting one for the optional camel ride later on in the day. At the stop there is a towers which can be accessed by a spiral stair case. I would recommend climbing this for a great view of the desert. Next stop was the camel ride. This cost but was well worth it. If you didn’t feel comfortable riding a camel then you could ride a horse and cart instead. The camel ride was great and suitable for almost people. It felt slightly chaotic to begin with when being given your camel. The most hair raising part was when the camel stood up. After this it was a smooth ride. During the ride we were approached by traders offering horseback rides, fenec foxes and cold drinks. We said no thanks and they then left us alone. During the ride our camel handler offered to take photos of us and we had a photographer who was present take more. The photographer charged 5 dinar for each photo. We then went on to our hotel for the night, the Sun palm hotel yasmine in douz. The hotel is okay but again it felt chaotic getting our room keys, I feel this could all be done for our arrival. We also had to pay 12 dinar each for the hotel tax, again I feel this could have been done beforehand. Dinner at the hotel was very good and better than our own hotel’s food. For a beer and water it was 12 dinar. An early night was needed as our wake up call was at 3 forty 5 for a desert sunrise. The early start was rough however the sunrise was definitely worth it. The jeep safari was amazing. We saw onk jamal, a rock in the shape of a camel, drove over some gnarly dunes and then saw part of a Star Wars film set. This was incredible. We then went for lunch which was okay. It felt slightly rushed, like they were trying to get you out in a hurry. We then drove to another cafe with a souvenir shop. The coffee here was good but we stayed for half an hour and we’re encouraged not to buy souvenirs here as we were told there would be a cheaper shop in kairoun. The next stop was kairouan. We were only here for half an hour which felt like far too little time. For the majority of it we were in a shop were we given a terraced view of the great mosque, mint tea and makrut treats. We were then given an 8 minute sales pitch for carpets. Following this we had roughly ten minutes looking in the shop we were told would be cheaper. Most of the prices were similar if not more expensive. When we left the shop we only had about 2 minutes left to explore the city, we walked down the street and found a much better view of the mosque but unfortunately did not have any more time to explore the medina. This stop was a bit of a let down. I would sooner have explored the city more rather than be given a sales pitch. Following this stop we went home. Sometimes it felt our tour guide was just arranging for us to buy things especially in kairouan and I feel he could have explained some of the locations in more detail however this may be due to the time pressures. In summary the stand out moments were El jem coloseum, the Berber house, Luke skywalkers house, the camel ride, jeep safari including the Star Wars film set and kairouan. Negatives include stopping for too long at road side cafes and most importantly feeling rushed at certain destinations especially kairouan and El jem. I feel that more time should be spent at those locations instead of the road side cafes but overall it was a good trip and I would recommend it to those traveling to Tunisia.

1. Too many stops of 30 minutes or more for toilets but mainly for cigarettes when you do not smoke is very long. 2. Water should be provided at all times whether at the restaurant included or at the hotel in the Sahara. It wouldn’t cost you more to include water which is essential to health especially in the Sahara. 3. The hotel is a total disaster. Terrible service without smiles, not to mention chairs at the pool, is it really chairs? We were afraid of breaking our backs. Room in non-functional air conditioning, stench and very old room. I couldn’t sleep in the sheets. I put my towel over the bedspread so afraid I would catch bibittes. You could add ds d the price for dromedary ride or carriage so that we are not to take out money again. 4. Meals: first day lunch far too late and lack of vegetables. Fees for water and consumption. All other meals ok with the exception of the different charges at each place for drinks. The driver was exemplary helpful and the bus very comfortable with air conditioning. Our guide knew the story well and answered our questions well. 5. If you correct this excursion especially the low class hotel , I could recommend it

It was an unforgettable program, at first I was afraid of being a long distance, but there are so many things to see and do during the journey that you don't even feel.

We took full eyes, beautiful views and landscapes, we came across friendly guides. To do to discover the immensity and beauty of the landscapes, the atypical Berber houses, the camel ride and the super 4x4 excursion in the desert dunes. Little flat like many other reviews: quite tiring (1100 km by coach in 2 days) not to do with young children and food during the stage at the hotel very disappointing. We went to 3 girlfriends, and all without exception, we recommend this tour.

Great opportunity to experience the different nuances of Tunisia. It experiences and explains what Tunisia has been affected by through the ages. The guide spoke good French and good English. Note long distances in the bus requires probably a little brought entertainment for children.

Absolutely fantastic trip do not miss, lots to do packed in over 2 days. So glad I went with my teenage son rather than just staying in the local area. Camel rides, jeep trip into the desert, food, all great. The desert hotel was clean, not dirty as someone had said previously and breakfast and dinner there was good. You pay for drinks in all places but obviously take your own with you in advance or snacks if needed. Star Wars sets were built 30-50 years ago so they’re still going to look slightly weathered in the desert obviously but great experience. Don’t bother thinking that Amethysts that you can buy in the desert set of The Phantom menace are real as they’ve just been dyed purple and are probably rock crystal. I bought a big one paid £10 thought it looked a bit suspect on the bus, and washed it under the tap to see the dye come off, but still v pretty so not that bothered. Just to be aware. Guy in the desert hotel tried to get me to pay a £10 deposit for a massage after dinner and camel rides, to secure a massage after dinner, but by then it was nearly 9pm so common sense that I didn’t part with any money at all, plus I was tired by then, and had to be up at 4.30 am the next day. Enjoyed everything just be firm, say no thanks a few times, walk away if in doubt. and don’t accept anything in your hands like desert foxes or milk for feeding the baby camels unless you really want to as the locals will try to ask for money for touching or filming. Fed a baby camels unless you for 2 dinar, filmed it, loved the experience. So many people eat only once a day here.
