I did find both excursions to be overrated. Bromo you could do on your own and Iijen is a very easy trail where many people are pulled up and down by “Cadillacs or taxis”. The guide for Iijen was great, a gas mask and headlight was provided but no headlight or flashlight was provided for the second. A snack after Iijen was provided and breakfast after Bromo which I did not expect since there is no mention of meals. Water was provided for Iijen and not for Bromo which it’s just a viewpoint and not even a trek. The accommodation was quite cold, no hot water as advertised and whenever I had messaged them on WhatsApp I often would not get a response or a timely response. I also am a solo female traveller and did not feel safe with this experience. I was transferred into vans multiple times often without a word of where I was going. I was unsure of when there would be a break as well as where I would stay. At one point I was told I would transfer cars again but was put into a home stay where there was a bunch of men smoking around a table, I was picked up in an hour but felt unsafe the whole time and could have even been left at a restaurant or cafe for that time as well as it was unclear to me what was happening. The communication was very poor, many of the drivers not speaking English though I believe they were all third parties. I did not know when the next excursion would start or had any idea of what the itinerary was. I also had a very bad experience with my last driver. He made inappropriate comments as well as suggested I take a bus instead of dropping me off at the train station as I had arranged. He continuously asked me for a tip and also brought me a ticket to the wrong city. I arrived 6 hours later than I should have and ended up paying more to get to my next destination. I was put into another situation where I felt unsafe, I was the only women and the bus drivers took pictures of me without consent and I also felt scammed by my driver.
