Comuna 13 was one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in Medellin just 20 years ago, but it has been transformed to a very colorful vibrant place. The change started when the government built escalators in the area thus connecting the area to the city of Medellin, in fact these were the first escalators installed in Latin America. We will be walking through the Comuna 13, taking in the best views, hip street art and also taking the journey on these outdoor escalators. I've lived in Comuna 13 for most of my life and have witnessed the change with my own eyes, I am happy to introduce you to the way locals and explore the best spots in the area.

My group and I spent over two hours exploring the area with him, and it was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Medellín. John was incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about sharing the history, culture, and transformation of Comuna 13. He didn’t just show us the famous murals and escalators—he brought the neighborhood’s story to life and gave us a much deeper understanding of the people who live there. What stood out most was how much he genuinely cared about making sure everyone had a great experience. He took his time answering questions, helped us with side requests, and made sure we never felt rushed. His energy, professionalism, and local insight made the tour both educational and enjoyable. By the end of the tour, I felt like I had learned more than I ever could from reading online or watching videos. 5.00Johan was lovely, knowledgeable, funny and loved how we started from the top and worked our way down. He answered our many questions and was a great guide to learn about the community and its history. He even provided unsolicited dance lessons 🤣

5.00Johan was the best tour guide I have used in my lifetime of travelling. He understands multiple languages and helped with Gautipa, Pablo history, Medellín town, football games, communa 13 aswell as many more things.
