We had a fantastic 3 day tour with Salty Desert! Huuuuge shout out to our driver (& amazing guide) Miguel. He was incredibly knowledgeable about all things Salar De Uyuni but also knew the roads like the back of his hand. He was an incredibly safe driver and made our trip so much fun! Miguel also knew how to take some hilarious photos of everyone on the flats. Thank you Salty Desert & Miguel!

An absolutely unforgettable experience! ✨ We lived 4 spectacular days touring the magical Salar de Uyuni with Salty Desert, and we could not be happier with the choice. Everything was impeccable: a complete logistics, perfectly organized and thought out in every detail. Our driver was incredibly friendly, always attentive and keeping us informed at all times, which made the trip even quieter and more special. You can see the commitment and passion with which they work. Undoubtedly, an experience we recommend with our eyes closed. Thank you for giving us such unique memories! 💙

Given the price and previous reviews, I expected the experience to be close to flawless, but unfortunately it fell well short. On the first day, we did not get to see the mirror reflection as outlined in the itinerary. Beto explained this was due to a lack of water; however, after speaking with other groups doing the same tour, they showed us photos of the reflection from that same day. This immediately raised concerns and left a negative impression going into day two. We also learned that another company, which had faced similar conditions on day one, made the effort to adjust their schedule so their customers could see the reflection on the second day. In contrast, Beto told us this would not be possible due to timing constraints, which felt dismissive and inflexible. The food was another major issue. Portions were very limited—so much so that on the first day I had to prepare additional food myself. On the second day, several people in the group, including myself, experienced stomach problems after eating. When we raised this with Diego after the tour, there was no apology, only an attempt to shift blame. Organization throughout the trip was poor. Both vehicles drove to Chile when only one was necessary, despite drivers already expressing concerns about low fuel. On the return journey, the cars broke down multiple times, causing significant delays and resulting in us arriving much later than promised. Finally, we requested to stop at the salt flats on the way back—something that was included in the itinerary—but were given multiple excuses that seemed to cater more to the driver’s preferences than the group’s experience. In the end, we were asked to pay an additional 100 each to see something that should have already been included. Overall, the experience was disappointing due to poor organisation, lack of transparency, and inadequate customer care. I would not recommend this tour based on our experience.

I booked this tour via Peru Hop and honestly I wish I did better research and went with a different tour company. I was told I would be picked up at the bus station at 7am after catching an overnight bus to start the tour, only to be met by no one. I then struggled to communicate via whatsapp and had to walk and carry my heavy bags to their office, only to be told the tour would be starting hours later that morning at 10.30 (not the 7am stated on my booking). They couldnt find my booking and tried telling me I could only take a spanish tour which I don't speak. They also charged me 70 BOBs instead of the 50 that was advertised for a sleeping bag hire. After sorting all that out, the tour then started after 11.30, while they mucked around organising food and supplies with us all in the car (could have been done before). Only once we were on the tour we were told we would not be seeing the mirror effect because there had not been any rain. However this was untrue as I had just spoken to travellers who showed us photos from the day before with the mirror effect. Plus it rained on night 1 of our tour and the guide acknowledged the mirror effect would be there now, but he still didnt want to drive us there as it was too inconvenient to deviate from the schedule. Pretty crazy considering the money spent and that this is one of the main reasons people travel to Bolivia to see it. We spent barely any time at the other attarctions in the itinerary too. After spending 290 usd, in total we spent about 2 hours out of the '3 days' on the salt flats and the rest of it mainly driving to see other things that were obscured by the cloud cover, when all the group wanted was to see the mirror effect, as advertised in our itinerary of the tour to begin with. We argued with the guide and received a variety of excuses until finally he made us speak to his boss to arrange a second tour once we got back to Uyuni. We then had to pay extra for it even though we were missing some other attractions to get back in time to make it happen. In saying that, the cars broke down several times so we stressfully only made it to the salt flats to see the effect within a few minutes of the sun setting. It seems crazy that over 3 days there was no flexibilty whatsoever to adjust things to work better with the weather conditions. Finally when we arrived back in Uyuni they didnt even have the car ready or there yet for the second tour we had arranged, further delaying things while wasting daylight. It was really frustrating and stressful for what should have been an amazing experience. There was also not enough food usually on the tour and several people from our group got sick from it. It's clear the company is just out to make as much money from people as possible and don't really care about the experience they are providing. The only saving grace was that our second tour guide to the mirror effect was a legend who sped all the way there to make it in time and took incredible photos for us.

Disclaimer: This will be a lengthy but honest account of my first-hand experience. Bolivia is undeniably beautiful—that’s a fact. However, this review focuses on the tour operator and how everything was handled from start to finish, in the hope that future travellers can make an informed decision. I initially found this tour via Get Your Guide (see reference in photo attachments). The activity provider was listed as “Uyuni Expeditions,” but to my surprise, the actual operator turned out to be Salty Desert Aventours. This felt misleading and, frankly, fraudulent. I strongly advise against booking through Get Your Guide based on my experience. I ended up paying around 1000 BOB more than others in the same tour. I specifically booked a tour with an English-speaking guide for obvious reasons. However, on the day, I was assigned to a 4WD with a driver who only spoke Spanish. Thankfully, some fellow travellers helped translate, but with no data connection available, even tools like Google Translate weren’t an option. It ended up feeling like I had only paid for transportation, not a guided experience which is unacceptable given the price. At the start of the tour, there were 12 guests split across 2 vehicles. Oddly, each vehicle included people with different end destinations: some heading to San Pedro de Atacama and others returning to Uyuni. This poor planning led to confusion, frustration, and even heated discussions on the final night. It clearly reflected a lack of coordination and organisation from the agency. Uyuni Salt Flats. The tour did not take us to the wet part of the salar where you can see the famous mirror effect. I suspected this early on, as most tours typically ask for boot sizes if they plan to go there. Many travellers were disappointed, as this is one of the main reasons people visit Uyuni. What was worse, our guide claimed there was no mirror effect due to dry conditions which was simply untrue. I had personally seen it the day before with another tour provider. Food. Oh my, the food. Haha. This was one of the worst aspects. On Day 2, chicken was served, and several people, including myself, suffered food poisoning. On the first night, food portions were insufficient, forcing some guests to take food (or scavenge) from other tables. On the second night, dinner consisted of overcooked spaghetti with an overly onion-heavy tomato sauce and minimal meat. Overall, the tour felt like a tick-box exercise. While I understand the need to cover multiple stops, there was no effort to share deeper insights into Bolivia’s culture—only surface-level visits focused on scenery, wildlife and salt industry. The tour is advertised as 3 days and 2 nights, but in reality, it felt more like 2 days plus a transfer to San Pedro. Day 3 started at 4:30am, visiting the geyser in complete darkness around 5am, followed by a rushed 30-minute stop at the hot springs (I didn’t dip in because we arrived late & what’s the point). The Dali Desert and the green/white lagoons were reduced to quick photo stops because of a 9am transfer to Chile which felt rushed and poorly planned. What disappointed me most was the lack of care from the guide. When I raised concerns about my room situation, instead of addressing them, I was simply told I would need to pay an additional 150 BOB. At the end of the tour, we were dropped off at 08:40am, handed our luggage, and told to join the immigration queue—no guidance, no farewell, no nothing. In contrast, guides from other groups stayed with their travellers to ensure everything went smoothly. In a nutshell, Bolivia is an incredible destination and absolutely worth visiting. However, you need to choose the right tour operator. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this company.

Firstly it’s worth noting that the length of the tour is not 3 days it’s closer to 48 hours. If you are going to the Chilean border you don’t get lunch on the last day but still have to pay more. Secondly, the itinerary includes the mirror effect on the slat flats. We did not see the mirror effect, this was not due to the weather as we met multiple groups along the way that had seen the effect that day, more our guide didn’t bother to take us. When questioned the tour company were reluctant to change the schedule to include this. Thirdly, there often wasn't enough food to go round leaving us hungry so make sure you bring snacks. Additionally, the lunch on the second day gave 6 of our group bad stomachs and caused myself to vomit. The meat is cooked early in the morning and kept in a container at a variable temperature. The scenery however is fantastic, and our guide was kind and informative. However, I would not recommend this company when you can get a similar experience for cheaper.
