Selous Game Reserve is the largest Game Reserves in Africa covers a total area of 54,600 km2 , located in the south of Tanzania. It was named after Englishman Sir Frederick Selous, a famous big game hunter and early conservationist, who died at Behobeho in his territory in 1917 while fighting against the Germans during First World War. The Selous Game Reserve was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to the diversity of its wildlife and undisturbed nature.
Mikumi NP was established in1964 covering an area of 1070 square kilometers; it was later extended in 1975 to cover the current area of 3,230 square kilometers. Mikumi National Park is located to the North of the famous Selous Game Reserve. The park is the fifth largest National Park in Tanzania and the most accessible from Dar es Salaam throughout the year

Morning depart for Selous Game Reserve you will have a short break for hot lunch in Kibiti. The journey to Selous will take about 5 to 6 hours. Arrive for afternoon boat safari along the mighty Great Rufiji River. Boat safari brings you into close contact with hippo, crocodile and fantastic birdlife. Animals make their way to the river to drink and boat may approach elephant, waterbuck and other on the river banks to within a few meters. Crocodile glide into the water as your boat approaches and hippo appear in frightening proximity, grunting and blowing steam.

Wakeup early in the morning and have a cup of coffee or tea, then go out for wilderness walking safari with guidance of an armed ranger which will take two to two and a half hours. Walking safari will give you a particularly intimate feel for African wild. You will get the chance to touch the nature, see the different foot print and droppings of different wild animals and small creatures that you can’t see them during the game drive. After walking safari you will go back to the camp/ lodge for breakfast then go to the reserve for game drive until sunset. Selous is famous for its Elephants, commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffalos, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebra, wildebeest and greater kudus.

Morning after breakfast, you will start your journey to Mikumi NP with game drive en route, the journey is the most amazing and truly wild and untouched areas of Tanzania. The drive will take you up into the Uluguru Mountains across rivers and pass through small local villages and farms. The drive is tiring but possibly the most rewarding and adventures on the southern circuit.

Mikumi National Park
After breakfast you will go out for full day game drive in Mikumi NP with parked lunch boxes. Mikumi hosts buffaloes, giraffes, elephants, lions, pythons, zebras, leopards, crocodiles and many more. Over 300 species of birds have been observed in this park.

Start the day with early morning game drive. Enjoy the sunrise with morning game drive, this will take about two hours and a half and then drive back to the camp for breakfast. (For those who stay inside the Park), No game drive in this day for those who staying outside the park. After breakfast drive back to Dar es Salaam with stopover on the way for hot lunch. On arrival in Dar es Salaam you will be dropped off at airport, hotel or ferry terminal for the last ferry to Zanzibar.

5.00Our safari to Selous Game Reserve (also known now as Nyerere Game Reserve) and Mikumi National Park was absolutely amazing! Our guide, Davis, was incredibly knowledgeable and made the trip so special. He had a knack for spotting wildlife and sharing fascinating facts about them. The national park is super large and remote and it really did feel like being very far away from civilization. The area is so versatile, from the river to savannah to bushland, moorlands and dense rainforest. Each day was so different that the time was just flying by. I wish we could have stayed a bit longer. Staying at Selous Kinga Lodge and Camp Bastian was wonderful. Both places were cozy and had fantastic views. The highlight of our safari was the boat trip along the Rufiji River. We got to see elephants and hippos up close, which was simply breathtaking! Everything was well-organized, making our trip stress-free and enjoyable. Huge thanks to Davis and Tanzania Horizon Safaris for an unforgettable adventure. Highly recommend them for anyone looking for an incredible safari experience in Tanzania!

5.00Our safari with Tanzania Horizon Safaris to the Selous Game Reserve was absolutely incredible! After starting our safari in Kenya, continuing in Tanzania was the perfect choice. We crossed from Tarangire via Mikumi National Park to enter Selous from the East. It was a long trip, but it was absolutely worth it. Our guide, Patrick, was fantastic – super knowledgeable and friendly. He made the experience unforgettable, spotting even the most hidden animals and sharing fascinating facts about them. The Selous Game Reserve was breathtaking, with beautiful landscapes and so much wildlife. We saw elephants, lions, hippos, and even rare wild dogs! Everything was perfectly organized, making our trip stress-free and very enjoyable. We stayed at Sable Mountain Lodge in Mikumi among others and then traversed to Selous and stayed at Sand Rivers Selous which were all great choices. A huge thanks to Patrick and Tanzania Horizon Safaris for an amazing adventure. We highly recommend them for anyone looking for an unforgettable safari experience in Tanzania!

5.00Wonderful Safari experience. Pre-trip communication with Elizabeth was efficient, very helpful and they worked hard to reschedule and sort out our problems. Once we got to Africa everything was seamless, airport pickup and internal transfers were great. We decided to go on a 5-day tour from Dar -Selous Game Reserve & Mikumi National Park. Our driver, Davis, was very knowledgeable about the park and took the time to track down all of the animals we had hoped to see, which we appreciated. The accommodations were nice. The food was very delicious. Everything with the tour ran perfectly on time and our driver was very flexible based on how many game drives we wanted to go on each day. I would definitely recommend this tour company!
Halisi African Adventures made our trip and we will never forget them.

5.00We went on a 4 day Safari to Selous and we where amazed by the incredible Guide Johnand Chef from Halisi African Adventures. Frank was always in an excellent mood and he showed us all the incredible wildlife Selous has to over. We saw Lions, Buffalos, Elephants, Hippos, Crocs etc. etc. Frank learned us a lot about the wildlife and we couldnt have wished for a better guide. Halisi African Adventures sent a special chef to the camp we stayed at for us. He asked us what food we liked and he (and the quality of his cooking) made us feel like we where at home. Always ready for a chat, always friendly. Don't look any further, go with Halisi African Adventures.

5.00We had absolutely the best time. It was mostly because of our guide Davis. He had answers to everything we asked him, made sure we saw as much as we could and it was a lot. You can see he puts his heart in the job, it’s his passion and that’s why our trip was so special. Tanzanian scenery is absolutely stunning. We enjoyed our stay in the accommodation as well as food! :)
