The second hottest option among the climbers is that the Machame route also referred to as “the Whiskey Route”. This route offers a good sort of views, landscapes, and experiences. The start line of the route, Machame Gate, is merely a 20-minute drive from Aishi Machame Hotel. Located on the southern slope of Mt Kilimanjaro, Machame Gate will lead you to the highest of Kilimanjaro along the exciting footpath which starts at the tropical forest, then runs through all the climate zones and finishes with the Arctic desert within the summit area.
Camps along the trek are favorably located for a smooth and gradual acclimatization transition process. On the 3rd day, Machame Route converges with Lemosho and Umbwe at Barranco camp.
You can choose from a six or seven-day climb. The latter one is very preferred for better acclimatization transition.

We drive from Moshi to the Machame Gate which is located on the southern side of the mountain. This drive takes approximately 45 hours. Starting at the Machame Gate (5,718 ft or 1,748m) we will be climbing to Machame Camp (9,350 ft or 2,850m). This trek takes approximately 5-7 hours and is through the Tropical Rainforest Zone. Overnight at Machame Camp.

Starting our day off in the Rainforest Zone at Machame Camp (9,350 ft or 2,850m), we will be leaving the Rainforest Zone to head to our next campsite, Shira 2 Camp (12,621 ft or 3,847m). We are now entering the next ecological zone, the Moorland/Heather Zone. Trees are scarcer and small plants become more common. Overnight at Shira 2 Camp.

Starting at Shira 2 Camp (12,621 ft or 3,847m), we start trekking to our next camp – Barranco Camp (13,066 ft or 3,983 m). We hike towards the Lava Tower for lunch. After having lunch, we begin to make our descent to Barranco Camp. The landscape becomes more and more desolate as desert starts to take over. The views of the Great Breach Wall are fantastic from this camp, probably better than anywhere else on the mountain. We camp at Barranco Camp (13,066 ft or 3,983 m).
DAY 4: KARANGA CAMP – ALPINE DESERT ZONE

We climb from Barranco Camp (13,066ft or 3,983 m) to Karanga Camp (13,106ft or 3,994 m). To get to Karanga Camp, we must cross over the Barranco Wall. This climb is not technical and you will have the guides to assist you. This trek takes approximately 4-5 hours to complete. Afterwards we will rest for the remainder of the day. We camp overnight at Karanga Camp.
DAY 5: ALPINE DESERT ZONE - BARAFU CAMP

We climb from Karanga Camp (13,106ft or 3,994 m) to Barafu Camp (15,239ft or 4,644 m). This trek takes approximately 4-5 hours to complete. Afterwards we will rest for the remainder of the day. We camp overnight at Barafu Camp. We will be going to sleep at about 7 pm, in order to wake up at 11 pm for our summit climb.
DAY 6: UHURU PEAK – SUMMIT DAY – ARCTIC ZONE

Starting at Barafu Camp (15,239ft or 4,644 m) we will begin our summit trek to Uhuru Peak (19,341ft or 5,895m). We will wake up at 11:00 PM the night before to get prepared and start trekking around midnight. This trek takes approximately 7 hours to complete. You will be reaching the summit around sunrise. Congratulations on reaching the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro. Spend a few minutes savouring your accomplishment and taking photos. We descend via Stella Point, all the way down to Mweka Camp (10,204ft or 3,110 m) in the Moorland/Heather Zone. This descent portion takes approximately 6-8 hours.
DAY 7: MWEKA GATE & OFFICIAL CERTIFICATE

After breakfast, we continue to climb down to Mweka Gate (5,423ft or 1,653m) where we sign the Official Kilimanjaro National Park Register, have a cold drink, and get presented our official Kilimanjaro Certificate by our Head Guide. This last descent to the gate should take approximately 3-4 hrs. We then head to our bus and head back to the Premium Hotel in Moshi. This drive takes approximately 3 hrs. You should be arriving back at the hotel in the mid-afternoon around 3 PM (depending what time you leave your camp in the morning).

5.00I had a great and safe experience climbing to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro with William as my guide. I opted for the 7-day Machame route, but since I was my own group and I was in a good shape, I manage to do the whole trek in 5 days. Wiiliam and his team made sure that the climb was smooth. They helped me in every way they could to complete the task and we didn’t have any setbacks. I love their company and every night I used to have dinner in their tend, instead of eating solo in mine. By the way, the food was so much and so delicious that I playfully asked the chef if he could come with me when going back home. Overall, the trek is very beautiful (although demanding) and I had an amazing climbing adventure. Indeed, there are many operators offering Kilimanjaro tours, but with William and his team you can’t go wrong.

5.00We left for Tanzania with my son at the end of January 2024 to climb Kilimanjaro with William Eliamini's team from Spirit of Kilimanjaro. The communication beforehand, the welcome at the airport, the transfer to the hotel, the preparation for the ascent via the Machame route in 7 days: everything went perfectly. Our guides Rama and Donovan were perfect: they watched over us with kindness and kindness at all times, making our health a clear priority and they supported us well in our acclimatization to high altitude by gradually making us adopt a slow walking pace (“Pole Pole”) but very effective! And the entire team of porters, waiter and cook contributed to making our trek as pleasant as possible: what a pleasure to arrive every day in a tent already set up and to eat a hot meal for lunch and dinner prepared by Steven our chef. On Saturday January 28, we reached Uhuru Peak at sunrise after 7 and a half hours of climbing on a full moon night. An extraordinary moment that will remain forever engraved in our memory! Thanks to William and his entire team!

The team is really lovely, we created a lot of bonding moments and it feels really good on this mountain. The support is impeccable from start to finish! I highly recommend The Spirit Of Kilimanjaro, after seeing a lot of people on the road, in my opinion it is the best team that can take you to the summit 💪🏼

5.00We have done the Lemosho route in 7 days with William. We initially planned to do it in 8 days but the plan changed along the route. William has a very good team with incredible guides (Rama, Zach and David). The food was delicious and we all made it to the top !

Great food, great organization and continuous availability before and during the hikd to discuss the program. We were a group of 9 people and everyone made it to the top!
