Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is the first ethical, 100% hands-off elephant sanctuary in Phuket where elephants roam around, bathe and sozialize freely across 30 acres of lush, tropical land bordering the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park in North East Phuket. We buy all rescued elephants to ensure that Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is their final home, and we offer professional veterinary care for old and injured elephants. By visiting us, you are supporting a sustainable, ethical and compassionate approach to elephant tourism where elephants have the freedom to live naturally. A morning with the elephants is an eye-opening and inspiring experience. Following a scenic drive along a local village you will arrive at Phuket Elephant Sanctuary, a picturesque jungle dotted with ponds, wide open fields and hillsides for the elephants to roam around. Your visit starts at our Tree Top Lounge, where we will show you a presentation and educational video to prepare you for your encounter with the elephants, and to help you understand why they need to be protected. We then follow them down into the jungle. By keeping a safe distance and watching them from our Observation Salas, the elephants have the freedom to express their natural behavior, from bathing and playing in our pond to socializing with each other. The program ends with a delicious Thai vegetarian meal.

5.00Amazing elephant sanctuary. I research for a long time to find a truly ethical sanctuary and landed on this. We were very happy to find this place was entirely focus on elephant well-being which was pleasing and comforting to see. The elephant hospital they’ve built is a true testament to this. Thoroughly enjoyed this visit and recommend it to any tourists hoping to see elephants while also respecting and caring for these beautiful animals. Elephants should not be ridden or bathed with and this sanctuary made sure to uphold this and treated the elephants with the upmost care.

5.00It has been a wonderful experience and it is so worth it to do the morning tour! The guide was super friendly and knowledgeable! The vegetarian buffet lunch was also very nice. All the proceeds are going back in to the sanctuary. The sanctuary is very respectful to the elephants and therefore does not allow feeding or touching the elephants in order to mimic their natural habitat. Would definitely recommend doing the 3.5 hour tour! Boots and socks are provided.

5.00staff were friendly and knowledgeable on the elephant habits and health. it was impressive that they have expanded to provide medical care for the elephants and treated the elephants well. duration was just right. it rained in the last part of the experience and the staff took good care of us ensuring our safety.

5.00Perfect morning spent learning about and observing these beautiful creatures. We were collected at 8am from our accommodation in a lovely clean minibus. A lovely welcome on arrival, delicious snacks and very tasty varied lunch. Rainy season - suitable clothing and footwear were provided. KT was so interesting and knowledgable. Lovely to be able to be so close yet inobtrusive. Daughter loved saying hi to the resident dogs too

5.00What we got with this tour was a connection to the elephants in a way that's felt really unbound natural and comfortable. We did wonder if we would miss the experiences of feeding, elephants, washing elephants, or riding elephants but once we got through this tour we realized none of that matters. We did a half day which is more than long enough and the cost is well worth it because that money goes to helping rescue more elephants and develop this wonderful Sanctuary. Our God knew the story of each and every elephant along with its age and its personality, as did the rest of the staff. We can highly recommend this experience to other couples and families. The staff all cared for us as much as the elephants and we finished with a delightful lunch, which they made for us specifically due to an allergy.

4.00The rain was spilling out of the sky on the day of my visit to the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. I was a bit miserable slushing through the sanctuary in wet pants and water-filled boots, but it was a joy to see the elephants frolicking in the rain. Seeing the elephants enjoying themselves made it worth it. The day started with an on-time pickup from my hotel and such a smooth ride to the sanctuary that I fell asleep on the way. Then check-in at the main office before being driven to the sanctuary grounds in the back of a pickup truck. The ride is bumpy but memorable. In addition to restrooms at the main office, there are also restrooms at the sanctuary as well. I was provided with comfy socks and boots, which in the end were too short to save my pants from getting soaked, and because of the rainy day, given a poncho and an umbrella. I enjoyed the opening presentation that explained the history of the sanctuary and introduced some of the elephants we would see. I was assigned to Minnie who was a wonderful tour guide and walked my group through the grounds. She gave us time to stand and watch the elephants be -- playing in the water, tenderizing their meal before eating, and scratching themselves against a tree. It was wonderful to be still and enjoy the elephants. After coming in from the rain, I appreciated that we were provided with plenty of towels to dry off with and get settled before lunch. The vegetarian lunch was plentiful and delicious. My favorite was the fried cashew nut dish. The gift shop had plenty of cute elephant-themed items to bring home. I was happy to shop for a good cause.
