People come from all over the world to see Holland’s Tulip Time Festival each May and often miss the city’s year-round peaceful beauty. On this self-guided walking tour, you’ll visit Downtown Holland’s prettiest locations that are often overlooked by visitors, with some unexpected historical details! If you like local history, insider locations, and beautiful flowers, this is the walk for you!
The tour starts at the city’s former fire station, known today as the Holland City Hall & Firehouse No. 2 Historical Marker, built in response to the devastating city-wide fire of 1871. As you make your way to Hope College’s historic campus and the elegantly maintained grounds of Centennial Park, you’ll hear about the multiple fires that nearly destroyed Holland. I’ll also tell you how a successful bank heist erupted into gunfire on 8th Street where, today, you’ll find thriving locally-owned shops and restaurants.

Had trouble initially to get the route to download. After a couple of times, it did work. Tour started off well. When we got to Hope College, I did not think the directions were clear and I got lost. After some difficulty, I got back on the right trail. The map is very helpful for this. Overall, apart from the above difficulties, the tour was interesting, and I recommend taking it.

We loved the peanut store at the end of the tour and did go to the Holland Brewery as suggested. The flowers in the park are nice photo spots. A bit too much time at Hope College. Stay to the right when you get confused as to which direction to go as happens at times :)

Fun for all ages lots of neat information and facts to learn. We took our 6 month old grandson he kicked his feet the whole time cooing at the pretty flowers and colors.

Audio content of the tour was excellent. Most of the content was around Hope College and its historic past, mixed in with downtown Holland. The audio walking directions were inconsistent at times which made us go off path, especially around Centennial Park. Assumptions were made that you knew the name of buildings even though the names of the buildings were not present. A couple of times instructions were to "Proceed forward" but with no clear direction on where to go and what you were looking for next. Since there was no physical tour guide, the walking instructions need to compensate for that. Overall good tour and worth taking.

This was a new and fun adventure. I had never been on a walking tour before. Even though I was from the area, I learned a lot of new things about some of Holland's history. The instructions were easy to follow and the terrain and elevation were not difficult. Nice walk through town in any season. Great excuse to visit the candy store and breweries!
