  Our experience started at 9am. We met the crew who allowed us to bring our own beer on board because we were only 4 people & they do not provide any alcohol. We were told the wind was going to make Icacos too rocky so we would not be going there on our 7 hour day. We went straight to the best snorkeling spot to see turtles at Palomino Island. The snorkeling equipment was good & the turtles were plentiful. We spent about an hour snorkeling with them. After that, we tied up to another boat at the crowded beach at Palomino. It was a Saturday, & the beach was full of people & loud music. We reapplied sunscreen & hung out in the water with a flotation device while the crew prepared lunch. Notably, there is no sort of shade anywhere on the island. We ate lunch, chicken skewers & bread, while in the water. After lunch, we all boarded the boat & reapplied sunscreen hoping to leave, as we had been at Palomino for maybe 3 hours with no shade at this point. But there was nowhere else for us to go. The captain set up an umbrella in the water for us, but we were just mentally done with the loud island. One of my group members informed him we were ready to leave & was told it’d be another hour until we would leave. Morale was very low and we felt trapped. We tried to pass the time but all agreed we wanted to go anywhere but that island & would be more than willing to cut the 7 hour booking short. I informed the captain who then gave us the option to snorkel elsewhere, go to another island that he said would be so busy we might not be able to go ashore, or to remain at Palomino. We opted for the snorkeling. He took us to a coral reef that had some fish, where snorkeled for another 30-45min. We ended the day at Cayos de la Cordillera Beach Nature Reserve next to Isleta Marina. This beach had shade & was quiet, a very welcome change from Palomino Island, but we were there for less than an hour. We all agreed that this trip was not worth $1450. It felt like the 7 hour mark was reached by just sitting us on Palomino Island for 4 hours, and the alternatives provided were not worth it. The boat crew did not opt to interact much with us, which is way different than other boat experiences we’ve had. I guess we’ve been spoiled in the past with crew that snorkel with us to point out cool things and share unprompted stories of the islands with us. Given the opportunity, I would not book with this company again, and I would recommend not booking on a Saturday.

  Charming experience, responsible, compliant and polite staff, everything they indicated would include in the package was offered in the snorkling could be appreciated turtles, reefs, fish of all colors an unforgettable experience, you can bring the drink of your preference

  Pirate Snorkeling Shack is an AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!! Hector and his crew are the absolute best! He is a super professional and licensed captain with decades of knowledge on the local ecosystem and culture. We have been using them every year for 6 years now and every adventure is just breathtaking! We have done Many different adventures with Hector and he just blows us away every time! We have gone snorkeling in the bioluminescent bay at night (which was a magical once in a lifetime experience for us), swimming with sea turtles and rays off the coast of Palomino Island, a remote beach experience on an abandoned limestone mining island (Isla Icacos), and several other adventures that we will keep just between us. Hector has a beautiful big white Boston Whaler boat that is in perfect condition. He also has all the floaties, masks, snorkels, wetsuits, rafts, accessories and equipment you could possibly want in order to make your trip unforgettable, and the equipment is properly fitting and kept in perfect condition and is obviously well maintained. He even includes snacks and soft drinks. Hector is also an incredible resource on all information related to the ocean or the island of Puerto Rico or any wildlife you may come across. It is very obvious that he is very passionate about protecting the beautiful environment he is bringing you into. You seriously cannot go wrong with Hector and Pirate Snorkeling Shack.

  

  

  

  

• Amazing experience and best day of our trip!

  What an amazing day! We chartered the boat for the entire day and Hector and his wife were the best hosts. We had a family of 4 with two teenage boys. They took us to. Culebrita where we did snorkeling and saw fish, turtles and stingray. We enjoyed the day on the beach and in the water. It was spectacular! The food and service from Hector and his wife were top notch. We all enjoyed this day so much. Highly recommend this over a large tour with lots of people.
