Visit a birdwatching premier place. Explore this nature reserve located above 9,843 feet. Admire highest peaks. Contemplate the Andean Condor who is the largest flying bird on earth. Capture with your camera playful hummingbirds like the Shining Sunbeam, Ecuadorean Hillstar, Black-Faced Ibis, Variable Hawk, Many-Striped Canastero, Black-Chested Buzzard-Eagle, Paramo pipit, Tawny Antpitta, Plumbeous Sierra Finch, Black Flowerpiercer and other species. Follow up Humboldt's footsteps. Drive by the old house area where the German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt stayed in 1802. After Humboldt, other famous explorers arrived such as James Orton, Theodore Wolf and Edward Whimper. Also, it is possible to spot Andean Duck, Yellow-billed Pintail, Silvery Grebe, Andean Coot. For having a great experience on this trip, bring your photography and birdwatching equipment. If it is your lucky day, not only will you see Condors but you will also be able to spot the famous Andean Spectacled Bear.

Antisana Condor Observatory
The Andean condor (Vultur gryphus) is one of the most iconic birds of South America and a national symbol of Ecuador. With an impressive wingspan that can reach 3.3 meters (10.8 feet), it is among the largest flying birds in the world. These majestic scavengers use air currents to glide effortlessly across the Andean mountains, often covering great distances without flapping their wings. Known for their longevity, some individuals can live up to 79 years. The male condor is recognized by a distinctive comb on its head, a feature females lack. Feeding mainly on carrion, they play a vital ecological role in keeping the environment clean. The Antisana National Park is one of the best places to observe the Andean condor in Ecuador, making it a true birdwatching hotspot and a must-visit destination for wildlife and nature lovers.

Spectacular scenery with gliding condors

5.00There was a delay due to a broken down vehicle but a replacement guide was found reasonably quickly and Jean-Pierre was excellent. We had over 15 condor sightings amidst beautiful scenery including a snow capped volcano. A great experience.

4.00We were picked up by our tour guide Eduardo on time. Eduardo was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a rainy day so we didn't get to see condors flying (our main goal) at the observation deck but we did see two condors standing on the cliff through Eduardo's telescope. We saw many humming birds at Tambo Condor Bird Lodge where we first stopped to use the facilities and drank some tea, and later had lunch on the way back. Overall it was a successful trip. PS: right after we booked the tour we communicated with the tour operator Galapagos My World via Whatsapp, Silvia of the customer support was very responsive and answered our question quickly.

5.00An ideal place and set up to view, sometimes at close range, depending on the birds flight path. The environment is awesome and there are very interesting trails. Also feeders for hummingbirds are present. So you get it all.

5.00If you are a bird or nature lover this tour is for you. We watched a pair of condors drifting over a canyon then landing on the cliff face. Hummingbirds a plenty, beautiful scenery and a good view of Antisana volcano's. Guide Eduardo very knowledgeable and friendly

5.00We had the best day with Eduardo. We saw such a variety of birds, including 13 Condors feeding on carrion. The views were magnificent and the whole day was a highlight of our Ecuador trip.

5.00Eduardo knew all of the right places to maximize our condor/hummingbird watching. He's familiar with the locals which gave us access to places I doubt are on any other tour. He's very knowledgeable when identifying the birds but also gave us historical facts about the area. Lunch at Tambo was good too!

5.00Edwardo was a friendly knowledgeable guide with good English. We were able to see multiple Condors and many other birds as well as the Antisana volcano as we were lucky with the weather. The trout at the lunch stop was fabulous and the views also. The tour was adapted to our needs

5.00Eduardo did a magnificent job, driving us up to Reserva Ecologica Antisana where we saw the amazing Andean Condor, Carunculated Caracara and Andean Duck among other birds. We also saw deer and South American Foxes. Eduardo’s knowledge of the area and the wildlife was unsurpassed. At about 4000 metres it was cold! Bring a warm jacket! I would recommend this excursion to everyone
