Insightful, private off the beaten track journey in a legendary 1970-1990’s Czechoslovak Škoda car (or a modern van by 4+ guests) with our local guide to the most intriguing spots of the Cold War era Bratislava.
Explore a vast concrete housing estate, the Soviet monument Slavín, post-industrial developments, the Iron Curtain border zone and loads of communist-era architecture. The tour brings alive the fascinating story of Bratislava in the turbulent 20th century.
What can you expect? Cool drive and quirky stops to see and understand:
- the first prefabricated apartment block in Slovakia as well as the largest socialist housing project, Petržalka
- communist-era architecture (inverted pyramid of Slovak Radio, rocket-shape TV tower Kamzík, Freedom Square)
- political objects: Soviet memorial Slavín, diplomatic 1970’s hotel, 1980’s parliament, villas of former communist leaders
- controversial ufo-like SNP bridge, causing destruction of the Jewish district
- former Iron Curtain area

5.00Having never traveled to Bratislava or Slovakia before, we were really looking for an experience that would ground us in basic information in an engaging way. This your was perfect for that. Our tour guide, Richard, was excellent. He was extremely knowledgeable and worked hard to address the areas in which we were most interested. The tour left us with a must deeper understanding of the city and the country. It was hands down the best thing we did while in Slovakia. I would recommend it to anyone

5.00My husband and I did a “Post-Communism Bratislava” tour with Authetic Slovakia and enjoyed it immensely. Our guide was Peter, and he was informative, entertaining and very good company. For 2.5 hours, Peter drove us to various locations in Bratislava, and discussed events that had occurred there, including during the German occupation, the communist period and post-communism. We got a personalized, insightful view of the recent history of Bratislava and learned a lot! The tour was good value, and we highly recommend it.

5.00What a lovely introduction to Bratislava! After learning that we like history, our host Martin gave us detailed insights into Bratislava and Slovakia's history and culture. He had a handy book with images that added to his storytelling. Driving around in the 1990 Skoda Favorit was super cool and like a time-machine. Martin was fun, engaging, knowledgeable and willing to answer all the questions we had, leading to interesting conversations. He went above and beyond during the tour, and we appreciate the time he spent with us. Go on this fabulous tour to get oriented to Bratislava, see areas beyond the city center, and get some context to Slovakia's culture.

5.00Our Guide, Richard, was absolute charming, exceptional competent and a very good driver. The car (blue Skoda Favorit) is lovely, a blast from the past. We liked it a lot! The tour was very informative and outstanding from the usual tourist tours. The topics ranged from history, to architecture, to fun facts and included very good jokes about historic events, or things. At the end we got a long list of recommended restaurants (all kinds) and visited one. It was top and not expensive. I can only recommend this tour and it was worth every €

5.00Brano was knowledgeable and took us to many interesting sites, explaining the communist era and post-communist revitalization of Bratislava and Slovakia. My group included people who were alive during the 80s and 90 and remembered the end of the Soviet Union, as well as a younger person who only knew about the period from studying history. Brano was able to engage with us all. Definitely a worthwhile tour for trip to Bratislava.
