Clava Cairns
Outlander fans will love the mysterious burial chambers and standing stones at Clava Cairns. Stones that date back around 4000 years (yes 4000) thats older than the pyramids... Touch the biggest one... thats what Claire did! I dare you :)
Culloden Battlefield
Our second stop... is a visit to the powerfully moving site of the final Jacobite Rising – the last and most harrowing pitched battle to be fought on British soil between Scotland and England. Explore the interactive visitor centre, view fascinating artefacts from both sides of the confrontation, and experience the battle in the immersive surround cinema. On 16 April 1746, the final Jacobite Rising came to a brutal head. Jacobite supporters, seeking to restore the Stuart monarchy to the British thrones, gathered to fight the Duke of Cumberland's government troops. It was the last pitched battle on British soil and, in less than an hour, around 1,500 men were slain – more than 1,000 of them Jacobites.

This is a good tour for a cruise ship excursion. The small group (six person) tour is in a comfortable van. We were able to travel where the large tour buses could not. Our guide, Alistair, was personable and knowledgeable about the tour highlights. We were able to comfortably visit Cawdor Castle, the Culloden battlefield, Clava Carnes, Loch Ness, and see a few other attractions and the countryside.

George, our tour guide, was full of wonderful information, as well as being prompt, helpful, and friendly. Clava Cairns was more than I expected and George had plenty of facts and information and stories about it. Colin was very interesting. The exhibition center provided information from both sides of the battle. We spent only a short time outside on the battlefield because it was extremely cold and windy, but it gave great perspective. My favorite part was Cawdor Castle. It’s a beautiful estate, including gardens and having a nice café for lunch. Mainly though, it was full of interesting history which involved.my ancestor and made it especially fun for me. George even drove by a Clydesdale farm that belongs to a friend of his life, and we got to see him feed the beautiful horses. All in all a wonderful day.

Today was our most enjoyable day in Scotland. Luckily, I switched from my original bus tour to a smaller tour group (just six of us), which allowed us to meet Alastair and George. Their company, Go Highlands, arranged a fantastic itinerary. Alastair was incredibly knowledgeable and tweaked our itinerary so we didn't have to wait in line with other large groups to see all the sights. He also led us to many unique places, allowing us to see even more of Scotland's beauty. Today was another lucky day, with beautiful weather. We've already fallen in love with Scotland and hope to return again. We are so grateful to Alastair for arranging an unforgettable vacation for us.

When we booked the excursion, we did not know what to expect. Our guide, George Murray brought the passion and insight to each of the stops. The stories and history that were told felt like he was giving first hand knowledge. This tour is the best selection for your time in Inverness.

Guide, George MURRAY was excellent…. Very knowledgeable and engaging. Small group size of six made the tour more enjoyable than larger group tours.
