Great experience climbing with Jose. He is an expert and adapts to your level, giving valuable tips and explaining everything you need to know about climbing safely. I had a really good climbing session with him and would 100% recommend this experience.

Very well organized, prompt & friendly replies when making contact and requesting a tour. Equipment and explanations up-to-date. Area selection / routes adapted to skill level of participants. Very helpful and motivating guidance. I have been climbing for some time, and this was not my first outdoor experience. Still learned how to operate another belay device ;) And I had a lot of fun! Would definitely book another tour if returning to Madeira. Can't wait for a ferrata! :)

This was a fantastic experience, I would definitely recommend for anyone interested in learning climbing or looking to expand their knowledge. Due to availability this was a private session for me an my partner and he tailor it to our experience level perfectly, brilliant teacher and incredibly competent. If you are looking for something specific I’d suggest calling ahead as I’m sure they’d be willing to accommodate you. Great value for money also!

Wow! Our 3 kids have climbed, different levels of difficulty, all attention to safety and technique, they have laid a good foundation for the next challenge. Material and guidance excellent, highly recommended for sports enthusiasts.

I reached out to Madeira Climbing Center in advance of my trip, as they were the only company I could find offering climbing courses in February. They were incredibly helpful and provided all the information I needed to plan my adventure. Unfortunately, my initial climb had to be postponed due to the weather conditions. And due to the navigation in my rental car continuously directing me to the Atlantic ocean, I could not make it to the appointment in time. However, my guide, José, was incredibly patient and understanding. We still visited the climbing area to assess the routes and rescheduled without any additional fees. On the rescheduled climbing day, the weather was superb. José expertly guided me and another participant through the basics, teaching us how to secure our harnesses and belay safely. He carefully selected routes that matched our skills and abilities and offered helpful tips and techniques throughout the climb. The entire experience was both fun and challenging. Afterwards, José even took us to a local restaurant he frequents for lunch. I wholeheartedly recommend Madeira Climbing Center to anyone seeking a memorable climbing experience. José's passion for the sport, his patience, and the stunning beauty of Madeira made this an adventure I won't soon forget!

Well organized, good materials and the owner / guide, José, is such a chill guy - he is one of the Route-Setters, if he don‘t know the spots, than no one does 😅 PS: he adapts to individual climbing skills, so be honest 😉

I had the pleasure of meeting José in Funchal – the owner of the Madeira Climbing Center. His passion for climbing is truly contagious! He organized an incredible rope climbing tour for us in São Martinho, providing top-quality, well-maintained equipment. From the Climbing Center, we drove with his car to a hidden climbing spot featuring a variety of routes (difficulty levels from 5 to -7). José assesses each participant’s skill level in advance and tailors the experience accordingly. As an experienced professional climber, he offers valuable tips, teaches techniques upon request, and ensures a safe and motivating environment. Beginners receive a thorough introduction, including knot tying and belaying techniques, while advanced climbers are challenged with demanding routes. What makes this tour special? It feels more like an adventure with a good friend than a commercial excursion. José creates a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere where you instantly feel comfortable. If you want to experience Madeira in an active and unforgettable way, don’t miss this adventure – highly recommended!

I did two climbing classes with José from Madeira Climbing Center, and it was amazing. The first one was in Ponta de São Lourenço with a larger group, and the second was in Ribeira Brava with just two people. Both were great and really fun. José is 100% professional. His explanations are always clear, he not only taught me about climbing but was also happy to share information on general climbing topics, other techniques, and anything I was interested in. I also highly recommend the bouldering gym they have in Funchal. I went there every week for a year and it was a lot of fun. The spirit of friendship you find there and how quickly they make you feel like part of the community is a plus!
