Along the range of the Andean Mountains we can find the Cotopaxi National Park filled with an exceptional variety of flora and fauna species; also, it is home to the active volcano Cotopaxi (5,897 meters above sea level). The Limpiopungo lagoon is located at the foot of the volcano and here one could enjoy the view of the Andean Paramo and take incredible shots of the lagoon and the volcano.

Cotopaxi National Park
On the border of the province of Pichincha, there is the Cotopaxi National Park, an ecological reserve that combines the landscape of the Andean páramo, volcanic soil and the lagoon that emerge from the snow-capped mountains. Its main attraction is the volcano that bears its name which in Spanish means 'moon neck' given because of the conical shape of the crater. The elevation of the volcano is of 5,897 meters above sea level and is the second highest in the country. Visitors can discover different species of plants and animals like: wolves, rabbits, bears, condors, and among others that live in that territory. Visit The Interpretation Center: All information about the Cotopaxi National Park is available at the Interpretation Center, or better known as the Park Museum. The Center has showrooms, a souvenir shop and a coffee shop. It is located inside Mariscal Sucre Station (or Control Caspi entrance). Walk To The José Rivas Refuge (4864 Masl): Since the 70s, this refuge has been a welcoming place for professional mountaineers and amateurs coming to visit the Cotopaxi Volcano. Its name is in honor of the priest José Ribas who built it with the Mountaineering Club of San Gabriel High School. This place is located on the slopes of the volcano and an hour's walk from the parking lot.

5.00Excellent tour. Picked up on the from hotel on time and excellent communication. The driver Guillo was very safe and made very smooth turns. Tour guide Diana was friendly and knowledgeable. Scenery was beautiful. They took is to eat in delicious, authentic and reasonablely priced restaurant. No complains, everything was great.

5.00We had a great time. Guillo picked us up from hotel and drove us to Cotopaxi. Our guide, Diana, was very knowledgeable and passionate about the volcano, history and Pachamama (mother earth). Lunch was delicious, too. Highly recommended tour.

5.00We did the tour to Cotopaxi Volcano and it was an excellent experience. Our guide, Pamela, was spectacular: she explained every detail of the place with clarity and knowledge, and knew how to manage the rhythm of the group very well to take advantage of the time and energy throughout the tour. We visited several points, including the lagoon, and everything was very well organized. It is a physically demanding tour, it is not easy, so I recommend to go well warm, with good shoes and in at least regular physical condition. Great experience, fully recommended.

5.00The booking oand communication with the tour agency (https://quitotourbus.com/) were easy and quick. (With the agency, the tour is only USD 49 and you can get a 5% online discount!) I got several Whatsapp messages with tour infos and the pick-up confirmation - a few minutes prior to pick-up, Dani (the guide) called me to advise that the bus was almost there. The bus had some 15 seats in a 2-1 configuration with sufficient leg space for larger persons. The guide Dani was quite chatty and shared a lot of details in good English (and Spanish), and the driver Andrés was friendly and helpful. The walk up to the refuge was strenous but manageable, even though now in February (rainy season) there was some snowfall (like on most days) and the conditions were not very good, but it was worth the tour.

5.00A challenging hike for sure, but so pleased with our tour guide Veronica. She really helped and supported us to complete the trail. Our driver Andres got us to/from Cotopaxi safely. In addition to the hike, we enjoyed the stops we made along the way and the opportunity for lunch on the way back.

5.00I want to thank Fer for helping me so much fin the climp to the Cotopaxi. He helped me so much with breathing exercises to help me with the altitude. Also, he is very knowledgeable about the country. The driver was amazing too, great driving skills.
