In 1936, half of Shanghai was controlled by foreign powers. For decades, its had a negative birth rate and millions of immigrants, meaning the inheritance of the true cuisine of old Shanghai is limited to select insiders. On this tour, you’ll try at least 10 dishes on a journey through the clandestine cuisine of old-Shanghai, hiding in plain sight in the French Concession.

A great tour through Shanghai’s food highlights in places I’d never otherwise find. Angela was great and made sure everyone was comfortable and added great local context to the restaurants and the areas we walked through.

We had such a brilliant time! Angela was a fantastic tour guide and we learnt so much from her - she made sure everyone was included and kept the tour going at a great pace! There was so much food included so I really thought it was a bargain for the price, and it was nice to explore a different neighbourhood! Thanks so much!

Fantastic experience and value for money. We had the lovely Emma who explained not only the food on the tour but also the history of the city and area which was equally fascinating. She also patiently answered any random questions we had. Would highly recommend to experience more local cuisine and get to see different areas off the beaten track

It was great tour. Our tour guide Emma was very friendly and did a great tour with us with great food and many insides in the Shanghai cuisine. I can totally recommend to do that tour in the beginning of your trip. So that you can also revisit the restaurants and get tips for other dishes as well.

We had a great time going through Shanghai French Concession area with Emma. She spoke about the history of Shanghai and it's neighbourhoods and how it relates to the foods we were having that night. Very fun and informative way to experience the city and I highly recommend you try the food tour with Emma!

Max was an excellent and impeccably detailed host. He was super knowledgeable and took us to some amazing hidden gems. I’d book him again in a heartbeat.
