Joo Chiat Road is an arterial road and a residential conservation area in the eastern part of Singapore, and is located between Geylang Serai and Marine Parade Road. It is mainly bounded by conserved shophouses that are colourfully painted on both sides of the road.

5.00Tesia, the Guide made the Tour so good. Her knowledge of the area, the food and even her personal anecdotes was wonderful. We went to the smallest stores to a Peranakan museum house that sold local food we'd never have normally tried. The walk was flat & easy. At the end of the tour we sat around like old friends talking about Singapore and our home. It was certainly worth the money. Thank you Tesia.

5.00Our aim was to try different foods that we otherwise wouldn’t recognise and the objective was definitely fulfilled. Our guide Bala could not have been more helpful in seeking out traditional foods and ensuring we had a great time and learnt a lot along the way. My wife and I are in our seventies and although the humidity made it hard going at times Bala kept us hydrated and took great care to ensure we didn’t overdo it. The Peranakan area is really interesting and colourful and I’m confident we covered all the highlights.

5.00If you want to immerse yourself in experiencing local food, this is a worthwhile tour. Do note though that this entails a lot of walking, and can be challenging when the weather is hot. Varagi, our guide, was kind enough to accommodate a slower pace for my elder parents, without conpromising the culinary experience. For those who are younger and more physically active, you may able to visit more places. Varagi answered most of our queries well and is able to give a thorough history of the area.
This tour is a must do! Great tour, excellent guide!

5.00Bala was our guide and was extremely knowledgeable not only of the history of this area but on the history of Singapore past and present. He told us of fascinating true stories of individuals who contributed not only to the specialty perenakan/nyonya food but the building of Singapore. The food we tasted was delicious. Hand made curry puffs,laksa,otak-otak,kueh, putu piring to name a few. Each type of food had a story behind it. Definitely do not eat before going on this tour! Bala was courteous and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable with the walking and happy to answer all our questions. I highly recommend Bala and this tour

5.00It was a delight having Jamie as our tour guide especially with the additional knowledge of Singapore’s history and surrounding area. We visited places and tried dishes which we probably would never have set foot in . Would highly highly recommend.

5.00Jamie led us round Katong and found lots of things to eat that we would never have known about, sometimes from places we might have never thought to go into. She was great at giving us lots of information on the area and history, as well as contemporary Singapore. Overall an excellent tour and excellent guide, definitely recommended (and make sure you get the bak koot teh, with dark soy sauce and chili)!

5.00We had the lovely Jamie as our tour guide. She was very knowledgeable about the area and the history of the food places we went to. We stopped at five places, each a different cuisine and flavour. She was happy to stop at Starbucks because I needed my morning coffee fix🙏You must go on this tour with an empty stomach! 😅👌 I recommend this if you love trying different flavours and wanting to know the background and history of food in Singapore.
