  My English friend and I enjoyed a fabulous trip on the Mary valley Rattler . We booked the VIP experience as we wanted to enjoy the extra special seats in the club car , and a cheeseboard with fruit and crackers which was delicious. The train trip was fantastic , the driver gave us some interesting commentary on the journey and the views were spectacular. It was a really well organised trip , with plenty of time at the start to line up for a chance to stand on the footplate , shovel some coal into the furnace and talk to the crew . For anyone who loves steam trains it was a brilliant experience. The volunteers who run the trip are very pleasant and helpful and it was good value for money . We spent an hour at Amamoor watching how the engine was turned around and enjoyed a drink in the cafe . After the journey back we went to the station cafe at Gympie and had a wonderful lunch which had been pre booked.

  Right from beginning to end, perfect. When we entered our own compartment, chilled water bottle in eski bottle holders (we could keep) and a small snack were waiting. Tess, our own conductor was a pure delight. we loved her. The scenery, and sounds, and the fact we were on an old steam train were all of the highest order. The stop in Amamoor with a little market, live singing by an older group of woman, and the tea rooms there was magic. Upon our return, we were served a beautiful and tasty Salmon, Broccoli and potato meal plus a glass of wine, all inclusive. I 100% totally and wholly recommend this experience. Magical and once in a lifetime experience.

  The staff were excellent from the time we arrived and left the old station. Ralph in the 1st class was excellent as was the English announcer and the coach guard. The booking was extremely. Atmosphere was great with a really good sense of fun plus a sensible degree of safety precautions. The train and the coaches were quite beautiful and the speed recreated an older sense of dignity while so much less hectic than modern transport. Above all it was restful and allowed one to actually see the countryside. I cannot think of anything that I could criticise. The food and seating in our 1st class carriage was perfect and the station and museum were most interesting. We have already recommended the Rattler to friends in the last 24 hours and will continue to do so.

  We had a blast riding the Mary Valley Rattler. It was the perfect activity for a spring day in southern Queensland. The train itself, especially the locomotive is a treasure. We loved the views and the interesting history we learned about the railroad and its importance to the region. All of the volunteers were very friendly. We chose the VIP experience, and it was well worth the extra cost. The lunch was much better than I expected. Thanks for making it a memorable day!

  We had a VIP experience on the Mary Valley which was a very enjoyable day. Upon boarding you were given a mixed platter each, bottle of water and a stubbie holder to keep as a memento. The journey was relaxing and you were given commentary along the way. Once you reached Amaroo you were able to disembark and walk around the market and shops then witnessed how the train engine was uncoupled and turned around to be begin the journey back to Gympie. When we arrived back at Gympie we were seated in the cafe and served a two course meal which was part of the experience. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. The “crew” on the train are all volunteers and were very helpful, informative and happy! Would highly recommend this experience.

  We had a lovely day, the trip was fantastic, friendly and helpful staff. We had the lunch which was beautifully cooked. A great day and we highly recommend.

  A great experience. Run entirely by volunteers both young & old. Very comfortable seating & lovely cheese platter for each of us at our table. A pleasant stop at Amamoor where we watched the loco being turned on the turntable. Everything ran smoothly. On our return we had a beautiful 2 course meal (beef cheeks, so tender, panna cotta & Nutella choc mousse cake). Also a rum & red wine. Excellent value. Excellent experience. Would highly recommend. Thank you to our volunteer Brad who looked after our carriage.

  We did the VIP experience and thoroughly enjoyed it. The commentary was informative and good fun was had by all. The conductor on our carriage was very funny and made the day even better. It was like stepping back in time and the carriage was immaculate.

  Fabulous day out. VIP treatment from start to finish. Volunteers added to the whole experience, loved the entertainment at the stops. Lunch back in Gympie was delicious.

  

  

• Disappointing and overpriced

  The Trip was disappointing with regard to the Scenery, not much at all to see. We were charged an extra 10% for paying CASH to buy drinks on the train because it was a Sunday. When you consider that we paid $159.00 each, which was very overpriced, the extra surcharge was not warranted. The Meal at the end was also disappointing and was almost cold when served. The Salmon was only half a slice and the Beef Cheek was terrible and was not eaten The Volunteers on the train were very helpfull but this was not a value for money trip.
