This tour begins with a visit to Himeji Castle. Here we have one of the 12 authentic Japanese castles. The keep dates from 1618. The ensemble offers us a glimpse of Japan's feudal past. We have a great history lesson!
Then we go to Kobe. Mountain and sea meet proudly. We discover downtown Sannomiya, Nankinmachi Chinatown, and finally the port, with Harborland. Kobe is a pretty modern city. It is full of contrasts and charm. You're bound to like it.

Himeji Castle
Himeji Castle, nicknamed the White Heron Castle by its color, is a Japanese fortified castle. It dates from medieval times and is one of only 12 Japanese castles to have been perfectly preserved. UNESCO has designated this castle as a World Heritage Site. It is beautiful! And now it is open to our visits.

5.00Mouloud was my tour guide to this epic day of sightseeing. The Himeji Castle, a World Heritage Site - white heron castle - was truly a sight to behold. Even the approach from the train station was along a grand promenade. Dating back to 1333 ,Himeji has served both defensive and administrative purposes in the centuries of rival warlords, feudalism and then the Meiji era. Moving from Kyoto to Kobe, we toured the Chinatown and the harbor area of Kobe, and Mouloud provided valuable context as to their origins. To anyone wishing to gain an appreciation of the history and culture of these landmarks, I highly recommend this tour.
