Fort Jesus Museum

You will be picked up from the port and taken to the Fort Jesus. This is Mombasa's oldest museum and it depicts the culture and the origin of the local people, mentioning the origin of Swahili. With a guide you will be able to trace the historical pattern leading to the influence of the sultans. In addition, you will learn the culture of the local people through different exhibitions. You will enjoy a walk in narrow streets of the Mombasa old town, passing through the famous fish market before driving to see the elephant tusks as a monuments of the ancient (now illegal) ivory trade. After, you will then walk in the market with lunch at a local dishes to sample the local cuisines.

We had medical considerations that Martin had to take into account. He had to modify his standard tour to accommodate us, and he did a very admirable job. you are everything that we wanted to see. It was a good tour.

The vehicle that was used for our tour is not suitable for more than 4 people and not for long days..it was difficult getting in and out to the extent that we declined to get out at a couple of the anticipated stops. Standing for 20 minutes and listening to long explanations at various stops, left us without enough time to wonder and explore. The guide pointed us to what he wanted us to see and then we were moved along after that especially at Fort Jesus. To be fair, the guide was very knowledgeable and did provide valuable information. Lunch was at our expense, but they never asked us what we wanted to eat, they just took us to a place they wanted to.

Fantastic first class tour. Excellent driver guide and history guide. Covered all the important cultural and historic places and sights. We thoroughly reccomend this tour of mombasa.
