Deep within the Everest region lies the most magical lakes on Earth. The indescribable blue-green waters of the Gokyo Lakes are a stark contrast to the steep, rugged Gokyo Valley walls. The adventurous journey diverts away from the more populated Everest Base Camp Trek for a more intimate experience with the culture and beauty of the Everest region. The highlight of the trek and a moment cherished for all your life is reaching Gokyo Ri (Peak) (5357 meters/17,575 feet). Words cannot describe the view here. In the distance lies the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest in Nepal, while Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, and more peaks act as a backdrop to this jaw-dropping panorama. Many trekkers consider the Gokyo Lakes Trek to have more magnificent views than even the Everest Base Camp Trek. Join us for the adventure of a lifetime!

Wake up with a pleasant view of Mt. Kongde Ri as we have our breakfast. Today is our acclimatization day. In higher altitude, there is less oxygen in the air. We must take time to let our bodies adjust to the difference. To help acclimatize, we take a short day hike up to Sagarmatha National Park Museum and Khumjung Village. The supposed Yeti scalp at the monastery and the Everest Viewpoint are memorable moments of the hike. Also, from the museum, we can see a perfect view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and many more pristine peaks. On the way up, we can stop at the famous Everest hotel and enjoy a cup of tea. Afterward, we explore Khumjung village and stop for lunch. After lunch, we head to Namche Bazaar. Namche is a major trade center in the Khumbu region and is densely populated by the Sherpa people. The city is bustling with trekkers who have finished or are preparing for the Everest Base Camp Trek. Bakeries, cafes, equipment stores, jewelry shops, and restaurants line the streets of Namche Bazaar. Overnight in the guest house.

After breakfast, we ascend for 25 minutes to the top of Namche Bazaar for a nice view of Kongde Ri. The gentle trail from here to Kyanjuma was built by Pasang Sherpa from donations given by trekkers. Soon, a junction appears, dividing the Gokyo Lakes Trek and the Everest Base Camp Trek. Taking the Gokyo Lakes Trek path, we headup to Mong La Danda. The view of Mt. Ama Dablam and Thamserku is amazing. After taking some photos, we descend to Phortse Thanga and stop for lunch. Between here and Dole, we have the best chance to see the rare, majestic Musk Deer. Ascend another couple of hours through birch and juniper forests until Dole, a beautiful little village with gorgeous views of Thamserku.

There are two small villages (Lafarma and Luza) between Dole and Machhermo that we can take a rest in.By the time we reach Machhermo, we are above the tree line, and the scenery is extraordinary. Machhermo is a very quiet village located near a river. After having lunch, we can go to visit the river and explore the rest of the village. Overnight at guest house.

Today, we are going to see the beautiful Gokyo Lakes, a highlight of our trek. We stop at a village on the way to have some tea and take in the surrounding beauty. About an hour after our tea break, we reach the first lake. After another hour of hiking, we can see the first lake. The second lake is nearby. Both lakes are mesmerizing with their blue-green hue. We hike for another hour and arrive at the third lake. The views of Mt. Cho Oyufrom here makes the experience even more special. Our eyes are wide as we observe the beautiful, tranquil lake. We have our lunch here, and then walk up to Ngozumpa Glacier. It is the longest glacier in the Himalayas, though it is melting rapidly because of climate change, so we are privileged to see it before it is gone. We continue to Gokyo Village. Again, we get an early start. However, you’ll feel well rested from getting lots of sleep last night. The goal is to reach Gokyo Ri before the sun rises, which provides a spectacular viewpoint to see the glowing peaks. It’s a steep 600-meter climb, where we see four 8,000 meter peaks before our eyes – Mt. Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. We head back to Gokyo village for breakfast and then head to Machhermo, which we reach just in time for lunch. Overnight at guest house.

We had the most incredible time trekking the Gokyo Lakes Everest Base Trek!! Our guide, Lhakpa, was wonderful and took great care of us. Kishwor, in the offices, made sure our whole itinerary ran smoothly without any issues at all!! We feel extremely lucky and grateful to have had such an amazing experience with such a great company!

We did a "10 Days Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri Trek" with Breeze adventure and had a great time. Kishwor was very professional: he promptly answered every single question we had before our trip was even confirmed; briefed us, in Kathmandu, before the actual hike to ensure we had everything we needed; picked us up after the trek and was genuinely interested in hearing our feedback and impressions. Sushant was a great guide. Knowledgeable, friendly, humorous and very patient, making sure our pacing was adequate at all times. He was flexible and able to adapt the trek to our taste. The hike wasn't rushed and gave us enough time to acclimatize. You can clearly tell both of them love Nepal, trekking and the mountains. As for the trek itself, the sights, the people, the food, nature… we can’t do it justice and you’ll have to experience it for yourself. The Gokyo Lakes felt like an excellent alternative to the crowded EBC trek. Kathmandu à Lukla à Phakding à Namche Bazaar à Dole à Machermo à Gokyo à Return Overnight in different lodges / tea houses with 3 daily meals included (drinks at your own expense, though). The accommodation is supposed to be more "basic" the higher up you go, but we actually found those higher altitude lodges more comfortable and clean since they had much fewer people than the ones up to Namche Bazaar.

The trek to Gokyo Lakes was amazing! We finished this trek last month with Breeze Adventure. The Guide and Porters were very friendly and well experienced. The view from Gokyo Ri was just Amazing! The Mt. Everest view and the other mountains were so beautiful. Thank you very much Mr. Kishwor for this amazing trip. He organised this trip very well. We will come to Nepal again for another trek in Kanchenjunga.

I first made contact with Kishwor the owner of Breeze Adventure Ltd via email, he always replied promptly to any queries, in fact I had originally asked about the Rolwaling Valley Trek but he informed me that due to time of year the high accommodation would be closed, we could camp but it would be very cold and he suggested some other options of which the Gokyo Lake trek seemed to tick the boxes. The organisation was first class from the meeting at Tribhuvan airport until my departure 2 weeks later. The Trek was an amazing experience that words can hardly describe, each day there would be new vistas to look at. Our guide Sushant was very knowledgeable about the culture of the high Himalaya and was encouraging but also thoughtful in his advice as the trek progressed. He wanted us to succeed in summiting Gokyo Ri which stands at 5357m, quite a challenge but we made it and were rewarded with amazing views of four 8000m peaks including Everest. On our return to Kathmandu Kishwor was also able to arrange a city tour which was informative and interesting. I have no hesitation in recommending Breeze Adventure for the organisation of your Trek in Nepal. A couple of points to consider: We had some days spare, this is very useful since the Flight we had to take from Kathmandu to Lukla on a small twin engined plane ( amazing experience!) is often held up by the weather in either direction, if you have a very tight schedule and are affected you may end up having to change your trek. Breeze provided 2-3 star Hotel in Kathmandu before and after our trek, it was fine. Travel baggage can be left at the hotel while you are on your Trek, but if you fancy something more luxurious just ask Kishwor.

We went for the short Gokyo lakes trek with the helicopter back. This was at the end of the rainy season, so weather was a bit off and on, but mostly clear when we were walking, which meant the views were spectacular! I loved the quiet of the off-season, and with fewer trekkers we could also see some wildlife, like musk deer.

A bird’s eye view from Renjola Pass! I can’t explain this trip in words – I just loved every minute! The little Sherpa villages along the way and their lifestyle was one-of-a-kind. I loved Namche Bazaar and Thame Village a lot! Once we got to the Renjo La from Lungden, I actually shed tears! I was super fatigued, but the awesome view from Renjo La Pass made me forget about that. The gorgeous peak of Everest was looking down on us and Gokyo Lake was looking great as well. Not to mention the sprawling Ngozumpa Glacier was looking might fine. We really enjoyed our 12-day trek to Renjola Pass and Gokyo Lakes via Thame village. Our Guide Sarki was super knowledgeable and porter Pemba Sherpa always compassionate. Thank you both for your great help. We couldn’t have managed this trip without you guys. See you in a couple of years for the Everest Base Camp Trek!
