Baalbek, is home to the Baalbek temple complex which includes two of the largest and grandest Roman temple ruins: the Temple of Bacchus and the Temple of Jupiter. It was inscribed in 1984 as an UNESCO World Heritage site. This Phoenician city, where a triad of deities was worshipped, was known as Heliopolis during the Hellenistic period. It retained its religious function during Roman times, when the sanctuary of the Heliopolitan Jupiter attracted thousands of pilgrims. Baalbek, with its colossal structures, is one of the finest examples of Imperial Roman architecture at its apogee.
Temples of Baalbek
The complex of temples at Baalbek is located at the foot of the south-west slope of Anti-Lebanon, bordering the fertile plain of the Bekaa at an altitude of 1150 m. The city of Baalbek reached its apogee during Roman times. Its colossal constructions built over a period of more than two centuries, make it one of the most famous sanctuaries of the Roman world and a model of Imperial Roman architecture. Pilgrims thronged to the sanctuary to venerate the three deities, known under the name of the Romanized Triad of Heliopolis, an essentially Phoenician cult (Jupiter, Venus and Bacchus).

5.00This tour started in Anjar as a taste of the next stop which is Baalbek. Baalbek is just extraordinary & Charbel the Archiologist was extremely knowledgeable with a brilliant sense of humour. Lunch was in Zahle which was one of the best meals I have ever had, dips, meats, salads & fresh seasonal fruit. The day ended with a visit to Ksara Winery 🍷 A great day and Albert our guide was absolutely fantastic with looking after us , driving carefully, commentary and kindness.

5.00I had the absolute pleasure of being guided to Baalbek by two incredible individuals who made my experience in Lebanon unforgettable. Starting from my hotel at the Royal Tulip in Beirut, Albert, the driver and guide, went above and beyond in every possible way. He was the kindest gentleman I’ve ever met—so knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in ensuring I had an enriching experience. Albert spent the entire day answering all my questions, no matter how small, with remarkable depth and insight about Lebanon’s history, culture, and landmarks. His guidance and advice were invaluable, and I cannot imagine experiencing the beauty of Lebanon without his expert and sage knowledge. Not only did Albert and the team make sure I felt completely safe and cared for throughout the journey, but they also went the extra mile to show me unique souvenir shops, ensuring I got the best deals and didn’t miss a single highlight along the road. Their attention to detail and commitment to creating a perfect experience were unparalleled. Beyond being incredible guides, these two were genuinely good-hearted people with whom I felt an instant connection. I walked away not just with amazing memories but with friends for life. I cannot recommend this tour and these exceptional individuals highly enough. If you’re visiting Lebanon, this is an experience you absolutely must have.

5.00We had an incredible experience on our Guided Private Full Day Tour to Baalbek. From the moment we were picked up from the airport, everything was seamless. Our guide, Albert, was outstanding. His knowledge of Baalbek’s history was impressive, and his perfect English made the tour even more enjoyable. We felt very safe throughout the journey, and Albert’s passion and expertise truly made our day special. He also took his for a phenomenal lunch! We highly recommend this tour and Albert as a guide for anyone visiting Lebanon.

5.00Lucy was a great host and tour guide. Giving us the important historical information as well as pointing out things we should be looking out for. She was very considerate and friendly. I felt safe throughout the tour despite recent troubles on the road. There were eight others our tour and it was just the right size.

5.00If you are searching for a relaible and knowledgable tour company, stop searching. We had an excellent experience with Lebanon Tours and Travels. On our private full day trip to Baalbek, Anjar and Chateau Ksara our Guide was Pierre. He is an excellent, engaging guide who adds a lot to your experience. The communication was perfect, pick up time on the dot. Restaurant recommended was excellent and low cost. The trip itself is already worth your whole trip to Lebanon. Anjar is a beautiful historical site of the Umayyads (8th century) in Roman style. Baalbek is superb, one of the best Roman temple complexes in the world. Chateau Ksara at the end was fine, but a bit in a rush (by Chateau Ksara not by the guide). We really enjoyed this magnificent trip.

Guided tour to some of Lebanon’s most beautiful gems, accompanied by Albeir, a perfectly French-speaking guide, very attentive, and who, beyond his perfect knowledge of the sites visited, knew how to explain Lebanon’s history, its political and religious news, and convey his passion for his country.
