This tour will take you around Hakodate's main sightseeing areas by streetcar, bus and ropeway. You can walk through each area, feeling the history of Japan from the end of the Edo Shogunate, the prosperity of the Meiji Era, and the end of the war to the present.
Admission and transportation fees are included in the tour fee.
In addition, local guides will carefully guide you so that you can concentrate on exploring Hakodate!

Hakodate Morning Market
The market has a long history that began in 1945, the same year that World War II ended, with the standing sale of vegetables. Today, it is a seafood market where visitors can enjoy Hakodate's famous seafood. Be sure to try the sushi and seafood rice bowls.
Goryokaku Tower
Next, let's take a look at Goryokaku from above, from Goryokaku Tower. You will be able to see the full extent of the Goryo star shape, which was surrounded by a water moat to prevent intrusion from the outside.

5.00We had a very good day exploring Hakodate with Josh! It was interesting to use the public transportation, and we were glad we had him to show us what to do. There was a fair amount of walking, and it was a very warm day, but we managed just fine. Josh did a great job!

5.00Wonderful experience with Maria! We explored churches, tried melon bread, learned the history of Hakodate, & experienced the true beauty of the area. My son & daughter said was thier favorite tour. Highly recommend!

5.00We had an amazing time with Hiro!! Really appreciated his insight to Hakodate and culture. We did the Hakodate Tower and Fort, Ropeway, Morning Market and the Red Warehouse District. We topped it off with some sushi at the end. Truly an amazing guide and person who we enjoyed spending time with. We would definitely recommend Hiro and a personalized tour of Hakodate. Thank You Hiro for a wonderful time!!!

5.00Weather on Hokkaido in early April is still unpredictable, but we had glorious sunshine and mild temperatures on our recent visit to Hakodate. Mariko (“Maria”) was a fun and knowledgeable guide and went the extra mile to search out a very good vegetarian restaurant for our lunch. We asked to visit the Botanical Garden to see Japanese macaques, or “snow monkeys,” basking in the hot springs and we weren’t disappointed. The views from Mt Hakodate, reached by “ropeway,” were extraordinary, with white mountain peaks in the distance and the city sprawled out below. We enjoyed our visit to Hakodate, and Maria made it a memorable one.

5.00My family, 7 adults, enjoyed a great day with our tour guide Josh. He was prompt, professional, informative and fun. We were able to see all the major sites in Hakodate. We sampled the food at the market and eat at another great sushi restaurant. We ended the day with some time for shopping. Overall, a fantastic day and I highly recommend this tour.

3.00Tour: Hakodate Food and Exploration Tour with Private Guide Date: April 3, 2025 Booking Ref: 1228063125 We recently took this tour, and while our guide did his best to provide a good experience, we found the tour description on Viator to be lacking in accuracy. 1. The tour involved extensive walking and city bus travel, which was not clearly stated in the description. This should be highlighted for travelers to set accurate expectations. 2. When booking from the United States, it appeared that lunch was included, but upon arrival in Japan, we learned it was not. This caused some confusion and should be clarified in the listing. 3. For the price point, we expected a more curated experience with a clearer focus on food exploration. We hope Viator updates the tour description to ensure future travelers can make an informed decision.

4.00We arrived by cruiseship and had booked upfront one day in Hakkodate with a personal guide on our own. When we first met Joshi at the meeting point I became clear very quickly that this would become a great day. He was so gentle and very well prepared for what we wished to experience in his beautiful hometown. We have seen and visited all the spectacular places and have had delicious food and drinks throughout the day. Josh had a very sensitive attitude towards us when it came to rectifying the way we liked to spend or manage the ongoing time. Perfect guide, kind person. Highly appreciated and recommended by us.
