A 5 to 6-hour trip from central Helsinki takes you to the tranquility of the breathtaking Nuuksio National Park, a large tract of peaceful wilderness within Helsinki metropolitan area. You will travel by a commuter train and local bus into the heart of Nuuksio Lake uplands and hike in a picturesque hilly landscape of small lakes hidden in evergreen forest. Your biologist guide will show you some of the most beautiful spots and tell you about the natural features of Finland and the park.

5.00This hike involved bus rides to the national park an hour from Helsinki, and the time was well spent visiting with our guide. The hike was a bit strenuous and involved walking over granite rocks, walking through the restful forest and finally down (fortunately for me) about 300 stairs to our last stop at a 7 meter lake that flows into the Baltic Sea. We were fortunate to see a whooper swan, the national bird of Finland. The hike was worth experiencing, and our guide was knowledgeable about both the flora and fauna of the park, and gave us other interesting information such as the vast number of lakes in the park, and in Finland, thanks to glacier activity during the ice age, only 10,000 or so years ago. He also told us about the bird population in the park and those flying over us on their way to warmer climes. A word of caution, restroom facilities are about halfway through the hike.

5.00Great easy level hike. On a well maintained trail, Beautiful lakes and our guide Mikhael was very knowledgeable on nature. Getting there by bus was very easy.

5.00This was a really nice excursion, not too physically demanding but we got lots of walking in. Our guide Mikhail was fantastic and knows everything about nature! Learned so much and got outside which was a great way to spend the day. Definitely pack snacks and water if you plan to go.

3.00You have to know that you are on the bus for 2 hours out of the 5 hours. Unfortunately, our guide didn't explain much - but there wasn't much to see except for rocks and lakes.

5.00Excellent walk through Nuuksio National Park. Our guide knew so much about the biodiversity in the forest. We learned a lot about the birds and types of trees and plants along our walk. Highly recommend this walk for anyone who wants an introduction into the beauty of the Finland's forest.
